Comand Install Instructions!!!

First of all, I would like to let everyone know that I am in no way responsible for any damages incurred by the method I have devised. Take your own risks! This is the method I have used and it works for me.

Ok guys, I have recieved a lot of mail from you regarding the upgrade. I am going to list the instructions here so please read up. First you will have to get a German Comand System from Ebay in Germany. www.ebay.de next you will have to go to the Synergy Systems GPS page www.synergy-gps.com and get the antenna for it. It has to be the one with the HRS connector on it. Check their site They have. Even if you have the teleaid system, get the antenna. It's a headache integrating the Comand with the OEM teleaid antenna. Synergy will require you purchase a minimum of 2 or 3 antennas so get a group of people to buy them. THe HRS connector is the only one that will work with the Comand system. Next you will have to get a connector from your MB dealer. C2 Plug shell part number A 000 545 42 30. Next is the Plug itself. Part number A 001 545 48 40. Last are the pins that fit inside the plug. Part number A 013 545 46 26. If you do this whole thing correctly, you will not have to use tape anywhere in the installation and you will have a stock looking harness. If you have the CD Changer then you will need plug C1 also. Part number A 034 545 75 28. The stock radio has connectors on the rear of it. One has all the speaker connections on it and the other has the power, ground, memory, lighting, etc. You will have to locate 2 wires which are the CAN BUS wires. I believe these are on the connector with the CD Changer wires on it. It should be a seprate connector. One is brown and other is brown/red. Hook the brown wire to the C2 connector Pin 2. This is CaNBUS LOW. Hook the Brown/RED to PIN 9 which is CANBUS HIGH. The C2 connector is finished. Installing the Changer is a bit more involved. I believe there is a ready made harness you can get. Part number is A203 540 09 09. I have not used it so do not know too much about it. Peter Timmerman helped me a great deal with the install. I have enclosed a drawing that he drew for me. Please check it out.

The diagram is from Peter Timmersman. He deserves all credit for it.

thx for the info

After we did all that, do we still have to bring it to the dealership and have them enabled the command using their diagnostic laptop?

sorry

Oops, forgot about that. The dealer has to activate the the comand system using stardiag. This way, the car ECU knows that the comand system exists in the car. Then the directions can be displayed on the small display under the speedometer also. It will still work without getting it activated though.

So everything will still work even if you don't take it to the dealer for activation? So the only thing that is added by dealer activation is the display on the instrument cluster?

Is that right? THanks!

I see on C2, there is a "optimal for mp3 player" label. Exactly what does this mean and what does it do?

Did anybody who's got Comand installed by Steve happen to take pictures of the back of the Comand with all the cables connected?, I'm about to install mine and would be very grateful if somebody can post the pics.

At the moment I've got Comand 2.0, GPS antenna (part no: 203 820 09 75) a long black cable (part no: 203 540 70 06) and an audio 10 connected in my car.

Cheers
