Question Rear headrests question

Do you find that rear seat passengers use the head rests? I would keep mine down all the time for better rear visibility, but I don't think my rear passengers would put them up to use them, unless I asked them to or pointed it out.

I wish the fold-down head rests were like the Volvo's--they fold forward so the rear passenger is forced to push them back in the up position when they sit down in the back seat.

What has been your experience/thoughts on this matter?

I wondered about that too. The few times I've had people back there I told them that they can flip up the rests. None of them did however. When I sit back there they are at a comfortable height even when they are flipped down. I don't know how they act in a crash though.

The manual recommends keeping the headrests up else no guarantee of crash protection for the passengers.

Most of the people who ride in my back seat do not even notice them - unless I tell them they are there. And even then, most of them do not use it.

Rear Headrests

Sounds like we are unclear on the concept.

My car doesn't move and won't even be taken out of Park with passengers in the rear until everyone has a seat belt on, AND the headrest in its proper position. Them's the rules. Otherwise, what is the point behind all of these built-in safety features?

John,

I see your point and agree with you completely in terms of the safety, but I just have a hard time asking or requiring my rear passengers to flip the head rests up.

I would prefer that the car somehow enforce this, like the Volvo does with it's flip-forward style head rests.

When I know I'm having passengers in the rear seats, I prepare ahead of time by putting the headrests in the upright position. Otherwise, when they open the doors to get in I tell them to flip them up. They always want to push them the wrong way...
