this just happened to me this morning, made an appointment w/ my dealer tomrrow at 9, since my car is still under the warranty, id let them check it out first... 47,000 miles.... good thing this happened before 50,000miles...
it just sucks that it feel like the engine is gonna die especially decelerating to a red light, i have to use left foot to break, and right foot on gas to keep the rpm above 800rpm....

i know what you are talkin about. i had my huge run in, that was seen earlier in this thread. MAKE SURE you get it handled under warranty. I've heard some cases where they have and where they havent. push for it and raise hell if they dont.
good luck.
good luck.

There's another thread around here with complete instructions and pics I beleive.
Lucky me, something I DON'T have to worry about on my car...
though, I have no idea where the EGR valve is...and
EGR search on the service CD doesn't even give a match.

Check out this thread for some pics - it's for replacing or cleaning your MAF, but it gets you down to the hose you need to look at/replace. Shiop procedure calls for removing the intake manifold, but quite a few on there have replaced the hose without.

Just dropped my '03 sportcoupe off for what seems like the exact same low speed idling issue at 47k miles. I told them to check out the hose mentioned in this thread, but for some reason when you mention that your info came from a forum, they get this look on their face like your a moron. Guess I'll find out the deal tomorrow. Really hoping that $12 hose is the problem.

Well, add one more bad hose to the list. But talk about adding insult to injury, I purchased an extended MB 3 year warranty off of a lady who worked at a MB dealership back in 2003. There was a thread on Csportcoupe.com (yeah, really going back in the day) and she was selling warranties at a discounted rate. I know there was a good amount of members who purchased one through her. Anyway, MB says they have no record of anything, and so far I can't locate my paperwork. So unless I find this paperwork, or somehow get the contact info of this lady, not only am I screwed on the hose being out of warranty, but I'm also out the money I invested into this non-existant warranty. Not exactly a good day.

what ID is that hose ?
why replace a bad hose with another bad hose ?
this is one of those things where an aftermarket solution is IDEAL...
just replace it with a silicone hose, that won't crack kink leak EVER...

http://www.hosetech.net/
...etc
don't give benz another 500.. it;s really not that hard to change this (pre-emptively) now that we know it's a common problem...
edit: Just wanted to add this is PCV not EGR. Our cars don't have EGR since they have dual variable valve timing... we have an air injection valve (which most people just assume is an EGR valve) and we have a pcv system...
of course these do completely different things...

Well, just replaced the hose today. Wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. Turns out mine was completely severed at the lower nipple. Really odd actually. Almost looks like that clamp they used caused the problem since it was such a clean cut. Never seen one like that before. Anyway, job done, car fixed. Just need to get the check engine light turned off now. Thanks for all the info guys. Saved me several hundred dollars. Oh, the best part is the hose was $14, yet there was a giant label on the bag it came in showing $5.25. Guess just arriving at a MB dealership triples the price.

Replacing my hose...
Wow, what an adventure just trying to take the airbox out. At least we know how to do it now, which will make it much easier if we ever have to remove it later on.
My hose was cut at the end, and I agree, it seems like it was made to break there. The rest of the hose looks fine. We're gonna replace it tomorrow.
Good thing we have these forums to help us. Feel bad for those who have had to pay to replace their MAF sensor when the problem all along was the $12 hose...

Hey guys, I just noticed that the pipe in the pic has yet another part #?
Tony Berry (who posted the pic) shows 271-018-12-82. Just checked with MB Parts, this is the latest revision (as of Jan 2008)
If someone has pics, can you please start a new DIY thread so it can be stickied?

This just happened to me yesterday. Checked answering machine and had a message from my dealer about the campaign! LOL! Damn what timing.

This just happened to me yesterday, well rough idle, loss of power, a whistling sound when revved and no CEL. The car is at the dealer right now, they "think" that it's most likely the hose. I'm at 57k miles and out of warranty, but I got a loaner b/c of the campaign. Hopefully that fixes the issue.

yup, they said the tech drove the car and that it's fine and that was most likely the issue... but they did find some other things to be concerned about

Thanks all!
First off I want to thank everyone who has contributed to this thread. I have been a lurker of these forums since we purchased my wife's car about 2 years ago.
The car recently (past month or so?) started having these same issues. I tried everything I could to fix the issue/CEL light. I replaced the spark plugs and the MAF to no avail.
Then I found out through this thread and forum that there is a recall on the PCV vacuum hoses and promptly brought my car into the dealership.
The car is running like a champ now, no issues at all.
Thanks everyone!
P.S. I have a MAF sensor for sale now... =)

We're not talking about a Saturn here. If people can't keep a Mercedes Benz past it's warranty period then what car do you propose?
My warranty is over in December and I will not be getting an extended warranty for its multiple thousands of dollars.
