Hearing a Whinning Noise while in Park...
Hey all,
This is my first post and my first MB. I have a 2003 C320 4-Matic with apprx 70K miles on it. The transmission and radiotr were both replaced less than 10K miles ago.
The problem is as follows: When I start the car I hear this major whinning sound. When I shift to drive and accelerate the sound gets louder. If I apply the accerator while in park the same thing happens.
I'm planning on bringing it to the dealer this weekend but I am very concerned since I'm using this car as a DD.
Any and help/insight would be appreciated.

I don't think it has anything to do with your tranny.
Open the hood, and listen around the serpentine belt area. Sounds like a bad pulley bearing, or possibly the belt tensioner.
To help localize the sound, use the carboard tube from a roll of paper towels to hear where it is coming from.

It's the tensioner pully or something like that. I had the same thing a few months ago, the dealer replaced it for free since it's under warranty.

I opened the hood today and turned the AC off...the noise didn't changes. I've checked the belt also and the belt isn't cracked or even remotely dry. I'm thinking its a pulley also. I'm going to take it into the dealer on Thursday and hopefully they'll get it figured out.
Thanks for all of the replies as I get into the whole MB ownership...love the car so far...its a big upgrde from my first car out of school (2004 Ford Focus).
