Touchshift @ redline
#26
hmm
i guess they are diffrent....cause i can start from 1 and it will shift a little passed redline for me all the way up to D. Between manual shifting and auto there is a big diffrence especially when i put it into 2 at 30mph/3Krpm and then just punch it..your neck snaps:p

i am really enjoying this technique. the extra oomph was startling at first but now, i'm appreciating it.
also as a test, i held it to the left while at a stop and it goes D, 4, 1. and when i hold it to the right, it goes 1, 2, D.

Since no W203 driver has given me a definite answer, I decided to give it a shot and try what would happen at redline myself.
From a stop, I put TouchShift in 1st, and depressed the gas *slowly*. 4000rpms... 5k.. engine starts screaming.. 6..
6050rpms
6150 ah f**k it.. put it into 2 manually.
Sorry, I chickened out too.
So when exactly does the revlimiter/upshift kick in? If the redline as stated in our manuals is 6000rpm, how much further do we go before the electronics kick in?
Well, at least I know I'd have to do something REALLY stupid if i ever was to find the answer

huh? i tested it already and mine does shift just as it hits redline. not sure why yours doesn't. i have the coupé; not the sedan but i would think they were the same. i did accelerate pretty hard though.
still, i don't let it upshift for me at redline; i do it myself at around 5.5k rpm.

my w203 (c180K) kicks in on redline fine...just that it's only a couple of months old and I normally chicken out when the needle gets close to the redline..so I don't use this method much.
When I get a bit gutsier though.....

what the hell
I'm going to give it a shot today. I'd like to step up to the clk cab anyway, so blowing my engine would be a good excuse, plus I can yell at my salesman and bully him into a good price and a better waiting spot.

If you guys are flooring the pedal then you all obviously know there is a switch/button under the accelerator pedal that will downshift to the lowest but safest possible gear? I find that quicker than flicking the shifter.

Still a good thread. Anyway, Redlined like a maniac, both from a halt and downshifting on the freeway. In neither case did anything automatically select any gears. I may have chickened out, since I didnt redline for more than 2 or 3 seconds, but that should be long enough, right?

The "adaptive tranny is a trip sometimes.
Once in a while I'll downshift and start to floor it and some dip**** changes lanes right in front of me going 40 in the fast lane, just as I'm starting to accelerate, so WHOA let my foot off the gas.
I access my slow, oblivious, dumbass seeking missile feature....
anyway, so when I upshift to D again, to settle in to a slower speed (the better to aim the missile)
the tranny stays in 2 or 3 or whatever.
Sometimes even thought it says D, I have downshift and upshift, to get it to change. Sometimes this happens just in D and putting my foot to the floor, pushing the switch under the gas pedal.
But if you put it at 1 and flog the dog, it always changes at redline or thereabouts. I'm not usually looking at the rpm's , more interested in the road thats coming at me at an increasing faster pace...I mean, in 10 seconds yet doing, what 80 or so?

Anyways, here's another question. When I had my car in "P" gear, and I floored the gas, the RPMs peaked at 4500 and held steady at 4000. Haven't tried this with "N" yet, but assuming it's the same, is it possible to do a 4000 RPM launch start in the automatic car by throwing it into "D"? ('02 C230k BTW) Most likely nobody's ever tried this, but is it theoretically possible? Because if it is, I'd like to try that at least once...

I think there are some earlier threads discussing his exploits.

Well despite the fact my car has a 4re license plate frame just to confuse people ( personally I feel certain Giagario had a hand in the styling..) I would never compare to a 4re.
And lets face it. Who worries about rpm's in a 4re?
They just keep going and going....
9K I think.
But IF 4re built a car for the people, with a 4 cylinder, well I think it be something like the c-coupe.
NOT!
