Glove box removal?

I am looking to put my RF 3sixty processor on the "shelf" in the glove box that's made for a cd changer. I need to get the box out in order to cut some holes in the back of it to pass through all of the wires needed for the 3sixty. I have searched here but all I can find are a couple threads about installing the iPod thing- that doesn't show all that I need. Any takers? I was able to find a How-To for an ML- but the C appears to be setup differently.

It is easier to pull the engine than the glove box. Might sound slightly better to buy the correct fiber optic changer for your car. Units can be had for around $ 200. that fully integrate with the head unit and the wheel controls.

I don't want a cd changer- I am trying to put my processor where the changer would be mounted. Considering I have had the interior completely ouf of the car (aside from the dash) in order to do the stereo install- the glove box can't be that bad. There's no way to get the velour part of the glove box out?

Glove-box removal

- when I bought my CD player (online) - I went to Mercedes and "found" the guy who is familiar with the car. I paid him $60 for the installation (he had some tool to poke around and unhook something)...

- Any reputable shop should be able to at least suggest the basic steps

I will take the side cover off tonight that's near the door and look around in there and see what I can find.

No shops in my town/area will touch a Mercedes. The dealer as well as any good foreign repair shops are around 45 minutes away. I will use that as a last resort. I guess I will just continue to poke around on the net as well as look a little more closely at my car.

It's not that simple. I need to take the complete glove compartment out to replace my passenger AC vent.

The other day I gave it a try. From the side cover, all you can unscrew are two bolts. Then it looks like it's bolted on along the horizontal line under the dashboard (behind the felt material).

If you get it out, please let me know.

I broke mine too. But I was able to remove the whole thing and run some wires behind the dash instead of through the glovebox.

Very Slow Mercedes
More than likley you will break the box if you try to remove it,Mercedes always has them in stock I do about 2 a month and I am a small shop...excessive weight breaks the plastic hindges in most cases so going in and out is tough

I had to work late tonight- no time to mess with it now. I am still going to have a go at it tomorrow. I had the interior out and back in w/o breaking any of the trim, connectors, etc......Now that I said that I will most likely be at the parts counter ordering a new one on Thursday

I removed my glove box when I installed my aftermarket headunit/changer. You need to remove the screws near the passenger side door and below the glove box, as mentioned above. You also need to remove the center console trim around the head unit. The trim piece that makes up the right side of the center console all the way down to the shift knob needs to come out to get to the last of the glove box bolts. I think this means removing the center console air vents, then unsnapping the faceplate trim, then unbolting the side trim, then unbolting the glove box.

It's pretty straightforward with normal tools. Just resign yourself to the fact that all those pieces need to come out, and it's simple.

just got back into town from a rafting trip- haven't done much with the car yet.

are you talking about the glovebox or armrest- just curious to make sure we are all on the same page.

Yup, I'm talking about the glovebox, not the armrest. The left side of the glovebox is bolted to the center console area next to the headunit. So you need to remove trim to get to those fasteners. I spent a while trying to avoid removing all that, but found no other way.

If you are installing a "carputer" in the glove box, there is a hole in the right side of the glove box for the walkman or Ipod adapter. There is a knockout about 1 inch in diameter. You could use that for a cable exit.

never really thought of that one. i think i would have to open the hole up slightly to fit everything through. wouldn't make for quite as clean of an install- but it will still work. i am also thinking of putting it under the passenger floorboard up near the firewall- there's a ton of deadspace under there. the 3sixty needs almost no air to keep cool- so there would be more than enough under there for it. it's controled by bluetooth also- so i would never really need to easily access it once it's installed.
