mp3/cd HU recommendations

(i posted this in the audio/electronics forum but it's dead so i'll post it here)

i'm looking to overhaul my entire stereo system in my coupe soon, and i was looking at 2 different head units. i want to spend around $400-500 on the HU, and i was checking out the Alpine CDA-7894 and the Kenwood KDC-X659.

also, what benefits makes the Alpine 7995 $100 more and is it worth the cash?

any advice is appreciated.

here's the alpine 7894:

here's the alpine 7995:

and here's the kenwood:

I think the 7995 has more display options for briteness of display, and colors of display, you have to use a amp with the 7995, and I think it looks more exspensive, maybe because it is.

I don't know about you but the amount, complexity and size of those buttons is enough to scare me. How do you talk on the cell phone, shift, eat and drive while trying to figure out those radios? Personally I would put the money towards a satelite system, one that worked with the factory radio. Listening to CD/MP3's gets old after a while. I would prefer a decent DJ working the type of music I like rather than have a few hundred songs I like and then listen to them over and over.

Did you ever think about getting a Hard Drive Based Mp3 Player Deck. I got a SSI Neo Mp3 Deck. The only thing it needs rear Auxilary to go through, I got the Alpine CVA-1000 for hits. Since the Kompessor has a Douible-Din they fit pretty good. I used to have have the Kenwood CD but I got sick of CDs. The Neo is 100 times better because it can hold 10,000 songs compared to 200 or so on that a CD can

Thumbs up

Personally, i just think these sort of HUs are for civics and the like. They have too much color and the buttons are just wierd. Again, this is an opinion nothing else. If you like em, get them. My recommendation would be to get one of the HD based players... or maybe even an iPod and stash it away using the remote to control it.
