Navigation DVD player question

I noticed that on a hot day the my 07 C230 Navigation LCD screen gets to be hot so I turn the screen off to keep it cool when not using it. My question is this, whenever I drive, I love looking at the navigation map where it pin points my car.. I am curious, when I am not using the acutal routing process with voice guidance, is the DVD player acutally playing and access any info off the DVD? I want to keep use of all these high tech toy to a must use base only, so I am not "abusing" it.

So again, if I am just driving and looking at the navigation map, is the DVD player actually spining the nav dvd? Or does the DVD player only access and spin the disc when I ask it to route me to a destination or retreving POI info?

Electronics are designed to operate at hot temperatures. I wouldn't worry about your LCD screen getting hot, even on a hot day. The navigation unit is designed to withstand heat and cold.

I do understand what you are getting at though. You want to minimize unnecessary wear and tear and take great of your car. But what is the point of babying an almost $3,000 option just to keep it from getting hot? IMO, use it and don't worry about it. Also, how much use does the navigation unit really get? Most people spend 30-60 minutes in their car everyday. It's not like the nav is being used 12 hours a day 7 days a week. Just my 2 cents.
