2002 C Class uses which OBD protocol? 9141-2 ?

Please, no guessing. (Buell...do you know this one?)
Likely I'll get a PC based setup, but need just a cheapo unit to clear codes, keep in the car since I read that an erroneous code can put your car in limp mode ala E's car.
I found some really inexpensive units at
http://www.alpha-bid.com/page12.html
They list a universal one for $17 bucks, but they say it won't work for Mercedes...then list one SPECIFICALLY for the C Class $27
(as though a standard OBDII scanner has some special functionality it can read just from C Class) and then shows the same pic as the one for $17.
And what year C Class? I've read mine is "ISO", but there seems to be several ISO protocols. Likely candidate might be 9141-2?
Newer C Class is CAN protocol for the OBD...(which really is confusing since I know I have a CAN buss, but it's not the protocol being used on the OBD circuit apparently?)
So, it's stupid for them to advertise one for "C Class"
which covers 3 chassis and over 10 years, and it's somehow different than the one they sell for the E and S classes?
I'm wondering if I can use the one for $17, and it's just another instance of someone that figures you should pay more just because you have a
Mercedes, and you're too stupid to know any better.
(even if it is just 10 bucks...it's the principal! )
They also have the CS 7.4, which I'll be ordering at some point, but don't need it now. Tires I need...
This sh-it drives me crazy.

Shows up as KWP2000 on mine.
Why do you ask?

It logs different parameters about the car, and its supposed to show error codes if any exist.
I tried it on my car, and it logged the parameters I specified (KM/h, RPM, Coolant temprature, Battery voltage). I attached a report for one of my trips.
It didn't show anything in the error logs. Most probably there are no error codes to be logged, but I want to be sure. The carchip has OBDII protocol configuration, screenshot below

It works with the standard OBDII capabilities, but I want to know if I need to choose a specific OBDII protocol for the error codes to be read by the carchip.
