Very simple question!?

Help me! I have quite literally been searching for the last 2 days for this info...

I am trying to install a car kit (Nokia CK-7w) into my pre-facelift 04 W203.

Where do I plug the wires into? I understand the yellow cable is for mute, which gets wired into the stereo plug in the relevant place, and have a diagram for that.

The problem is I dont know where is the best place (or how) to hook up the live, switched ignition and ground, nor the technique to do so. I understand that these wires will be coming from the stereo, can I connect it to these?

Can anyone help?? I had found a thread about installing a Moto bt kit, with all pics, but unfortunately the pics dont seem to be online anymore.

Thanks in advance!!

You have a few choices, depending on where you mount the phone. This may vary slightly, depending on your model year, but let's take a shot at it. I'm assuming you have a W203...
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The most obvious is the cig. lighter in the center console. It is switched with the ignition.

To access these wires, remove the shift boot, then with a plastic tool, lift the metal or wood console cover straight up. This should expose the cup holder area.

Slide that cover back and remove the cup holder by lifting and turning it. You can then unclip the two retainers for the coin holder/cig. lighter to expose the wires. Verify 12v+ with a multi-meter and use a solderless clip type wire tap to splice into *only* the + power lead from the lighter. Then run your ground to any bare metal near the shifter (you'll see a few places).

Once + and ground are connected, neatly route your wires to your phone connector in the area you plan to mount it while in use. then replace all the console pieces in reverse order.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Another place you can tap off power is in the front fuse block. This is a bit more work. On left-hand drive cars, the fuse block is located at the left side of the dash, between the door and the dash. (Consult your manual for info on right-hand drive cars for UK/JP etc.) Open it, and you'll find a folded paper diagram of what the fuses correspond to.

You'll see that there are several blank spaces for accessories you might not have, so with the ignition on, use a multi-meter to determine which blanks are switched (powered on) with the ignition. Switch the ignition off and remove the key to verify no power is not present at each blank until you find the one you'll use.

Use an appropriate sized crimp on spade connector or get a fuse tap from a local car parts place and use this to tap your selected blank - DO NOT CUT WIRES AT THE FUSE BLOCK AS IT MAY VOID WARRANTY .

Run a wire from the tapped fuse, under your dash to the area where you'll mount your phone. Choose a ground location near your mounting area and wire up the phone accordingly.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can also tap power off the fuse block in the trunk or under the hood. Routing the wire is more difficult and tedious from these areas, but sometimes an only option. I've done it, and unless you want to get intimately involved with your car and curse at it, you can save a lot of unnecessary work if you use the methods above.

Not if its as simple as this but you might want to try it!?

Pin Layouts for Connector A and B

Connector A
Pin 01 GAL (non-CAN speed signal)
Pin 02 K (diagnostics connector under hood)
Pin 03 Telephone Mute
Pin 04 Kl. 30 (+12V battery)
Pin 05 +12V switched output (for automatic antenna)
Pin 06 Kl. 58d (illumination)
Pin 07 Kl. 15R (iginition)
Pin 08 Kl. 31 (ground)
Connector B
Pin 01 LS rear right +
Pin 02 LS rear right -
Pin 03 LS front right +
Pin 04 LS front right -
Pin 05 LS front left +
Pin 06 LS front left -
Pin 07 LS rear left +
Pin 08 LS rear left –

I'm taking it that the 'yellow' cable you mentioned goes to A Pin 03
The live to A Pin 04 (not sure on this one)
Switched ignition to A Pin 05
Ground to A Pin 08

You will need the pins to connect the wires to to put into Connector A, i'm not sure of the part number though!? Dealer may be able to help with those!

thanks so far...

Is there a simple way to remove the wood trim around the shifter? It's very tight --- now done!

open the ashtray....and place your fingers under the trim in front of the shifter. Lift straight up....it's tight, but it's held in place by two spring clips.

Keep in mind that covered or coated wire is a form of insulate, and of course an insulator doesn't conduct electricity. You will need to expose the bare wire.

Touch the red lead of the multi-meter to each CONNECTION on the lighter...not the wire.

Touch the black lead of the multi-meter to any bare metal ground point on the car.

There are two 12v+ voltage points and one ground on the lighter. Your multi-meter will display "+12.x" at either the blue or green/yellow wire connectors. I don't recall the color codes or have a schematic, but I'm guessing the ground is probably the brown wire (get it? ground = dirt = brown...who says Germans have no sense of humor?).

The thicker wire is correct one to use...it connects to the bottom center of the lighter socket.

The thinner wire only lights up the surrounding bezel and will not handle the additional current required for your phone.

This concludes todays lesson in automotive electrical testing.
