oil change

A Few questions, Is it a bad idea to have oil changed anywhere but dealership?
Also what is the average price for an oil change on an 05 c230 sedan?
The dealership said once every 10k miles but that doesnt sound correct to me.

Thanks A Lot

My dealer charges $165 for an oil change.

I plan to do mine myself and only pay for the B maintenance schedules at the stealer....

Good luck

as long as you use the recommended oil and filter you should be ok. my dealer charges 250 plus tax for service B but if you do a search service A and B are similar. I think B just includes wipers, air filter n such...

I downgraded to a VW, it's still German though
Either do it yourself, or take it to Euro shop. Use oil that is 229.3 or 229.5 spec. Not many places have 0w40 or 5w40 or 5w30 Euro on hand. Anyone can change oil, it's not hard, it's just having the right supplies. Euro type shops usually have or can get the right type of stuff. On a 15 minute turn around at Jiffy Lube they aren't messing with trying to get a L45514 cartridge filter or 0w40 oil. They'll skip the filter, and dump in 10w30 or 5w30 syn. I change at 3000-5000 miles. I thought the factory claimed every 5000 to 7500 miles? I like changing oil, so I do it every 3k +/-. You could probably use any oil, but I noticed that conventional bulk 10w30 gets pure black and nasty after 500 miles in a M271 engine. Needless to say, I only use Mob1 0w40 now.

also, every dealer charges different price, really depends on your area.

and for me, I will only take my car in for oil change ($98), not gonna do service A or B at the dealer, since I can do most of those other inspection myself.
I take it for oil change only because it's still under warranty, if not I probably will never take it in to dealer.
there isn't that much difference between oil change and service A if you look at the discriptions.

It's every 13,000 miles or 1 year whichever one comes first. MB uses Mobil 1 Full-Synthetic oil which is superior then Semi-Synthetic or Non-Synthetic oils. Because of their superiority they do not need to be replaced as often as other oils. If you want to replace your oil every 5K go for it but you'd only be wasting your money.
