On my 2003 since it has been colder lately and I have been driving it and my drive is shorter than the wifes in mixed driving I get 20-24. The wife gets 22-26. On an all highway trip we get 31. Now when we first got the car the fuel economy did not start to get really good until about 4000-5000 miles were on it. So don't fret much and don't follow that stupid computer. Fill the car up then drive it til you fill again. Then take how many miles you drove and divide it by how many gallons you just put in it. I reset the trip odo on each fill up. Normally the computer is off a little bit. But I have gotten around 425 miles to a tank for a 350 miles long trip to my home town. That is all highway and averaging about 80 MPH the whole way with bursts up to and over 100MPH. When we get there the tank still has around 1/5 tank! Then we drive in city driving til the next fill up hence the 400-425 miles a tank. In normal stop and go drving and highway for a work week we get about 350 to a tank.

I have a 2004 6-speed.I get 20-25 on the street, depending on how I drive/revs,etc. Makes a BIG diff if you keep it at or under 3 grand. I get 33,somtimes more on extended hiway driving.

I'm at a little over 12,000 miles and I've been testing the car this past week on gas mileage for 1 full tank. I always monitor my gas mileage, but I really wanted to see how it would do based on the following settings:
Keep in mind, I drive an Auto and do a fair amount of down shifting:
- Driving in Sport mode (S setting)
- Driving with EC (80% of the time/ 20% AC on for heater/defrost)
- Driving semi-aggressive (i.e. using down shifts for faster acceleration, avg. of 45 mph on the streets)
- Driving only to and from work (24 mile commute total on streets only 5 days per week)
These are my results:
TOTAL MILEAGE ON 1 FULL TANK - 241
TOTAL MILEAGE AFTER YELLOW LIGHT - 11
AMT. OF MILEAGE TANK HAD LEFT (ACCORDING TO THE CPU) - 34
TOTAL DAYS SINCE START OF FULL TANK - 14 Days
Now, I believe I took my car out once last weekend on the freeway, but it didn't matter to me because I got 2 weeks on 1 full tank of gas (2/14 - today 2/28). Even though I only got up to 241 miles (w/ 25-30 left to spare), I still got through 2 full weeks without having to gas up!
I've tested the difference between driving with the AC on all the time vs. EC on all the time and there is a slight difference, but I don't realy need the AC on all the time anyway. With the exception of today (cold/rainy weather), L.A. usually has nice enough weather where I don't need the AC, plus I Love having the windows down in my car.
The most I've gotten out of the car was on a road trip to Vegas. I got 400 miles on 1 full tank! That was when I barely got the car. And yes, the mileage was better on the way back from Vegas, so I'd have to agree with people who are mentioning the better gas mileage AFTER you have several thousand miles on the car.
Just gotta love this car period, whether it's the 240/320/320SS/230KSS/230KSC/320SC/C32/C55!

Just looked up my on-board computer, never reset: 3,242 miles; 22mph; 20.2 mpg
On the highway, I average 30mpg (+ or - 0.2mpg) on trips of 100 miles or more; in town, I average from 17 to 20 mpg in cold weather and from 18 to 21mpg in warmer times.

The better mileage was one reason (though not the main one) why I went with the C230k over the Mazda RX-8, and the main reason I went with the C230k over the C320.
Still, it'd have been a different affair if the C320's engine had been more refined or lighter, or if the C350 Coupe had been available last year: I went with the Passat V6 over the 1.8t for our other car, because IMHO that V-6 was significantly smoother and quieter than the corresponding I-4.

I am so glad to see this tread, because I actually went to the dealer because my gas mileage is so low. I got about 3700 miles so far, and the average I got is about 24 mpg (or 350 miles per tank). The dealer did not help much. They said they can test drive for me for like 400 miles on track and then they can identify what is wrong with the car. I guess I can only hope that the mileage improves as I get more mileage.

Driving
I am going to fill up my gas tank tomorrow and I will make sure to track my numbers. I am also going to Orlando next weekend which is a 2.5-3 hour trip for me, so I will compare the mpg I get. I will post my results once I get them. Thanks again for everyone's feedback....

i get stuck in traffic a lot: on the way to work and on the way home.
people that have c230, their cars get much better gas mileage.

The mileage I have reported is for a mix of 2/3+ city and 1/3- highway. For comparison's sake, with the Passat I get about 16-16.5 mpg in town and about 29mpg on the highway on similar itineraries. I don't even want to think about what my city mileage would be with an RX-8...

You must be a very light footed driver.
I travel from Orlando - Jupiter down I95 on a pretty regular basis and manage 29-30mpg in my 2002 C230 SC which I think is pretty good milage.

Well I dont have the c320 but an 04 c230k and I just went on a trip to San Diego and back...a good 4hrs. total driving and coming back I hit almost 300mi. with still 1/4 of a tank left. I filled up around 350mi. and still not on the reserve light. Now its cuz of that long trip and cruise control. Usually driving daily with my freeway driving to and from work I can squeeze about 330mi. to my tank....im guessing thats about right for a 230k???
