Light sensor
Light sensor
I changed my oil on my 02 C320 and afterwards the Light Sensor cane on. Now, everytime im in the garage and start the car the message comes on and shows 1 malfunction. Did I hit something? Or was it when I reset the service increment?

I have the same message... It says "Light Sensor". That's it. Don't know why. I am taking it to the dealer next week, but would like to try something instead of taking it to the Stealer.

jello, please let us know what the stealer says is the problem/fix. I'm fearing this will wind up meaning having to replace the whole window

Actually I never took it in. The message dissappeared on it's own, but has popped up once more. Screwy german electronics I think...

My 02 C240 had a similar problem., My intrument panel (MFD) displayed “Light Sensor visit workshop” . This would happen occasionally only in the morning when starting the car. Starting my car later in the day, the malfunction cleared itself. I had the battery tested (voltage load test). The battery showed 12½ volts before starting. The voltage dropped to under 7 volts after 15 seconds with a load placed on it. Could of been a cell going bad or the battery needed to be replaced. I replaced the battery and the problem went went away. That was 10 months ago.
It could be when starting the car, the starter draws enough current to drop below a certain amount of volts and may trip 1 or more sensors to show up on the instrument panel (MFD) showing a malfunction.
My dealer said it was the “rain sensor/light sensor” that had to be replaced.
I think they mis-diagnosed my problem. Hoping yours is only the battery issue.
Good Luck!

Thanks 1st lite,
I also suspect it is battery... the mercedes has been sleeping outside while wife's new 328i is occupying its space in the garage... the colder recent nights, plus car sitting and not being driven for a few days at a time may be contributing to the signs of old/bad battery.
Today, I took the car out for an hour drive and the message disappeared and now shows no malfunction. I am suspecting the battery is charged enough to get that message cleared.
I will post my results later on for others who may see the same thing.
thanks.

Battery getting old
- after a 5 week vacation, I noticed the parked C32 would not "turn over" as crisp as it should. Shortly thereafter the "light Sensor" message (visit workshop) came on. A second message "SOS" error came on once
- drove the car in 100F weather... air blasting; battery still low....
- suspect the previous analysis/post - replace the battery will clear up the situation; will replace the battery - 2002 owned since November 2001 - time to replace the battery..... would have done it anyway - now I know why!
Note: a friend picked us up in Germany
Dresden/Hotel in his 2 year old (loaded) Accord. When he tried to start the car.... nothing; hmmm he said , last time I used the NAV system, the same thing happened!!! Odd, the dealer replaced the battery.... Honda?? Well, 7 years (C32) vs. 2 years (Honda) - there you have it!

I had my oil changed at a non-delaer, MB only repair shop the other AM. Next PM, C320 wouldn't start. Called AAA. They tested and showed a bad cell. Started with a jump, now showing Light Sensor malfunction and radio not working. Went to Sears for battery-have 2 yo DieHard. They showed all was well with battery & alt. Driving has recharged battery. I rplc'd fuse for radio. Not sure if malfunction cleared or not. Will wait for blizzard to end to drive and see. I'll repost later in the week and let you all know.
