just a fyi. I actually have been using the charcoal filter left over from the house a/c filter and attached it over the ben'z cabin filter. It works just as well. I apply the charcoal filter on the inside of the filter box, rather than outside (over the battery). Don't be too liberal with the tape or air flow would decrease; some creativity is needed.

I figured I'd replace my cabin filter (it's been a while) with the charcoal one.

I found it for pretty cheap here:

Anyone try any aftermarket cabin filters? The OEM one works just fine, but the charcoal filtration doesn't last more that 5-10K miles. I am looking for some aftermarket ones that use more charcoal and last longer. Anyone tried these on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=370212633569

Judging by the picture, this one has a lot more charcoal than the OEM one.

Carbon Filter is Differnt Location

My Model C320 03 has on the climatic control a button for CarbonFilter System, and it is ANOTHER FILTER inside the car under glove box, NOT THE ONE OVER THE BATTERY
i see posts where guys think it is the same thing.
IT IS NOT. there is filter #2 inside the cabin and is replaced to control odors. This is what My Manual has listed. The outside one over the battery catches the Big Stuff, and the one inside filters the are ONLY WHEN the button on the climatic control is switched on.
No Posts has mentioned this as of yet.

because no one is asking on the "feature" that they don't have.

everyone HERE is talking about the cabin filter that is in the engine bay. one part # is charcoal activated and one part # is not.

C320 INSIDE CABIN FILTER Charcoal type

This Thread Cabin AirFilters
folks are talking about are OUTSIDE in the engine compartment. its a 2 minute job with 2 clips and most ALL POSTS discuss this task however
Rarely do they discuss the CABIN AIR FILTERS
inside the car,
that is because it is a OPTION on the C320

so that is purpose of this post and more informations

==================
and others here, (see above) feel NOBODY HAS THESE BUT ME?

==========================
Part Number is 203 830 21 18 there are 2 of them

============================

climatic control see picture #4

So wait, im confused. I know there is a separate carbon filter under the glove box and all, but I RARELY use this function (never press the button on my climatronic). So does that mean its still clean till this day?
Or is it constantly used whether or not the carbon filter button is pressed?

[I've already cleaned the one in the engine compartment btw]

it is statically charged when you press the button to secondary filter the air coming in. it last twice or three times as long vs the outside cabin filter.

Its options item and use of

Yeap Dr W is right, not everyone has one, only c320
and paid as an extra option, would need to worry about it at 50-60K, and its not used if you do not press the button on the climatic control, and is bypassed.

Mine is on All the time....

also, there are other options than the 2 MB filters discussed above, form 3rd party,
no not from kragens auto parts

but from MICRON, They have these filters that are Sold as an upgrade for THOSE WITH ALLERGIES.

I got one for about the same price as the regular one.
so its priced good, and fit the same. on the web.

one thing I did learn here is that I did not know of the
charcoal version..... that would be good to consider.

i rarely go stock-normal-regular, and look for upgrades
wherever possible. There Are Exceptions of Course, Stick with MB parts
for the main items. Dont Fool with cheap e-bay or china parts. unless its something like a chrome ring for the lights door handles exhaust tips etc.

===========
for those on a tight budget, you might get by with just an air compressor and blow it off, to get the air to flow thru if lots of buildup. you will see bugs, leaves, and other small items inside.

however Its best to change it, and takes only a few minutes, with 2 clips above the battery.

=======================

currently at about 50K and will look for the
DIY, seen other models e-series ask the same question
some say to remove glove box, others say not,
some say its easy, some says its tricky.

=========================
i will post after I do it, and update what its about

Good to know about the climate control factor, and the allergy option. I don't use that feature now, but maybe I will later. I my vents BLAST air with it on.

try rmeuropean.com, that's where I got my cabin filter last time and it was pretty cheap with reasonable shipping costs.

Hi all.
That was very useful info. But i just wanna point out something in the photos. There are 2 types of filters for this model. One with carbon (Black) and one without the carbon (White). therefore the back filter one is the filter with the carbon element on it.

this filter is not for the engine intake though... right? this is just for the air in the cabin... if so when do we change the intake filter?

I didn't do the service B just oil change and I was under the impression I needed to change air filters...

Okay , every one is correct in what they are saying, however the C320 has 4 filters .

One over the battery in the engine compartment .
TWO under the plastic cover over the engine .
One ( carbon ) inside the cabin , under the Glov compartment .
I canged the first three , looking for DIY help . if you changed the one under the Glove compartment , please share your experties . Thank you

Any one has the C320 ?
The manual says that there is a charcoal filter inside the car below the glov compartment that is operated by a climate control button on the dash to clear any bad smell . i posted a link from yahoo on how to replacee it , however when i went and took the screws off , i couldnot find the place where afilter goes . Any one ever replaced a filter inside the car ?

In my opinion , this DIY should be called , " OVER THE BATTERY filter replacement"
some expert on yahoo search called it " Aircondition filter replacement " .

The in cabin filter is the one that is activated charcoal and it is inside the passenger compartment . it is activated by a botton on the dash board in the C320 models .
