PIAA Light Comparison

I've searched through the entire forums and can't find any bulb comparison for the PIAA's.

Can anyone do a comparison of PIAA's Plasma Blue, Plasma FX, and Xtreme White vs. Stock and Philips Vision Plus?

Which throws out more light? Stock or PIAA's?

obviously, the PIAAs are far more brighter than the stock ones, but personally i find them with a bit too much purple for my liking. very, very bright and excellent quality. i have Razo and like them better because they have a more blue/white look.

Antonio:

Which PIAA's are you refering to as being too purple?

The plasma blue, plasma fx, or xtreme white?

Does anyone have pictures for comparison?

i have the 1700x fog lights installed on mine and at night they're really bright. look awesome, not to crazy about them in broad daylight (blue lens). however, even these lights are not blue/white, they have a tinge of purple in them. its hard to explain, but if you ever get a set, you'll know what im talking about.

I've seen government reports on these light bulbs and all the PIAA halogen replacement bulbs consistanly put out about 1,000-1,100 lumens, comperable to a standard 55w bulb. They were surprised because of all the claims of putting out 110W of light. Just clever marketing to sell you blue tinted bulbs for a high price. The Phillips bulbs where consistantly brighter with the Vision Plus putting out about 1,500 lumens and the BlueVision (their Blue tinted bulb) puts out about 1,200. Anytime you tint a bulb it's going to put out less light, just makes sense. The trick that some bulb companies use to make it appear brighter in their own tests is that they move the filament out a little bit to concentrate the beam and then measure the hot spot. In comparison, HID lights put out about 2,800 lumens of light. If you want true 80w light bulb, consider the Phillips Ralley, don't know the lumens rating as they are illegal and not part of that study. My guess is that it would be 50% brighter because of the higher wattage. If that's true then they are 50% brighter than the Vision Plus they may put out 2,200 lumens.

I have Xenon head lamp on my SL, and the original fog lamps were to yellowish, so I went through 3 pairs of diff fog lamp till I came across PIAA Plasma H3 bulbs which came close to my xenon's the other were close to stock bulbs even though they said xtreme white and etc... but PIAA cost like 5 times as more...
Good Luck...

I used to have PIAA Plasma FX and PIAA Extreme white, the plasma FX was a bit too purpleish/blueish for me and the light output is quite poor. Extreme white is quite good actually, the light output was as good or slightly better than stock and the colour was a nice white with slight bluish tint on them.

If you're concern with the light output then get the extreme white, but if you prefer nice purpleish/blueish light and don't mind about the output then plasma fx is the way to go.
Plasma blue??..never tried them.

Bajaiman:

Thanks for the feedback. It took 4-5 posts to finally get an anwer to my question.

I think I'll go with the Xtreme White.

Big Sheesh:

I'm extremely happy with the Hiper HID look Plazma Xenon Blue Hi Wattage bulb. 80w. These Bulbs are high wattage and have a 4300K rating. It has a very good white light.

I've read several times now that the higher wattage bulbs may warp your light housings. Has this actually happened to anyone on the forum?

Yeah they do. But these PIAA's H7's are rated 55W, same as stock, so they should be ok.

I just checked with PIAA, they have the fog lights 9006 but they are 51W compared with stock which is 55W.

Will that cause any problems? i.e. computer throwing out a fog light malfunction b/c they aren't drawing enough power?

The PIAAs or the Nokyas (can't remeber which one) have a funny rating system...kinda like they claim its 55W but say they throw out 100W of lights i.e. 55W-->100W. How can that be? If its throwing off 100Ws of light then it must be 100W??!!

The H7's are 55W and are only 55W. Their claim of 110W is bs.
