Yes, that's exactly it.

I would be very very weary of buying ANY Mercedes C-Class that has a "CLKxxx anything" badge on it. Why?
Because that is a tale-tell sign that the car was re-worked at a bodyshop by non-Mercedes techs, after a possible rear-end accident.
Most repair shops order the correct badging for a C-Class. However, Mercedes-Benz sells C-Class badging and CLK-Class badging under the same part number. So when the repair shop gets it, they get the full run of letters. The actual repair guy that glues it on to the car, doesn't know the difference between a C and CLK, he just assumes that because all the letters in the bag came in, he puts them all on.

but then if he just had a look at the old part on the car...
