C240 dying on me after I stop.

My 2001 is dying on me. I start the car and shortly after I start moving, after hitting the brakes and coming to a stop the car dies. It has even shut off on me shortly after I start the car and then hit the brakes without even moving.

I thought it was the Crank sensor or even the MAF sensor that members have spoken about here with similar symptons. I have even changed the crank sensor in the past for a similar problem. This problem however is different.

The car gives no error reading with hooked up to the diagnostic tool. I have figured one thing out. The car seems to die only when the A/C is running. When I have it off it doesn't.

I had the A/C compressor replace months ago under my extended warranty. The Dying started shortly thereafter but didn't relate the two until recently.

My Merecedes mechaninc friend says one has nothing to do with the other. He had run a whole sleugh of testing with no error but I didn't put the two together until recently. I have tested it with the A/C off and on the there seems to be some relation there.

Does ANYONE have any idea if there is something here? Can the A/C be pulling power that would cause the car to die shortly after? It happens usually shortly after I start and pull off but it has even happened once or twice that I have driven a substancial distance and then died, not often but it has happened.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i've heard from others it could be the a/c condenssor.

in personal experience, my car came close to dying, with a VERY rough idle, it was a pcv hose. however that gave off a CEL. BTW it happened a lil over 60k. Though my experience was with the M271 motor.

good luck

dying issue

This happened to me. May not be the same as you.

I opened up the hood over the weekend a couple of weeks ago. I removed the cover and inspected the air filters. When I put it back together, I must have not put it on all the way. The car sounded awesome on throttle, but when I stopped, the car would stumble and die. I was about to bring it in not thinking about what I had done. I opened the hood, pushed down on the big cover, started, and now its perfect.

Worth a try

Jim

Never changed it but the dealership said it was good. Also they changed the air filters for supposedly the same problem but that was not it.

Your A/C systems performance shouldn't reflect the cars in most cases... but it's pretty simple if you think about it.. you're puttin a increased engine load on your vehicle everytime the compressor is on...I'm not exactly sure because I don;t work on MB's.. but when you turn that A/C comp. on it is going to spin ur crank faster. but uuhh, MB did the a/c warranty work for you? did they replace everything in the system? i.e. accumulator/drier, expansion valve/orifice tube, condensor, liquid lines, or did they just swap out ur comp?!?!

I mean from what you say it seems as if the car will idle until you turn your A/C on.. or am I misunderstood?

And if you come to find that it is not directly related to your A/C.. then it's most likely an fuel/emissions problem.

I had the same problem back in October. I needed a new fuel pump and filter. Problem is solved and it now runs like a champ!

Yeah... like I was saying before, it's unlikely that it's directly related to your A/c system... anyways, you should have someone perform a fuel line pressure test at the tank and on the fuel rail before the injectors.. hopefully it's not a clogged injector or something! GL!

If it's not under warranty - most all NAPA's should be carrying 'OEM' BOSCH Fuel Pumps now-a-days, and they aren't too expensive at all. Once again good luck!

It wasn't the fuel pump after all. It seems, form what they told me, it was the Throttle body. It need to be clean. haven't had an issue since.
