CD Player on C180 Avantgarde 2002 (Becker Audio 10) Faulty?

CD Player on C180 Avantgarde 2002 (Becker Audio 10) Faulty?
Hello all,
I was hoping to get advice from those more knowledged then me in this field.
Ok, i have the standard "Audio 10 in my Mercedes Avantgarde C180 2002" model - pic below:
I have a problem with the unit - it doesnt seem to want to play CD's at all- at first i was playing home made CD's burnt from my CDWriter - i had no joy with them whatsoever, so i presumed it wasnt able to play copies.
So i tried an original CD, hoping to get Phill Collins singing through my car speakers.. but instead i got an error message on the display reading "CDERROR." I was pretty knarcked about it..
Im not sure what is wrong with this unit, ive only just purchased this car, and this is the first time ive tried the CD player -
Im guessing there is something wrong with the CD reading feature maybe? The radio functions work perfectly, its just the CD's that dont play.. i was wondering if i could get any advice - has anyone encountered a problem like this before with this unit...
Is it the CD player that's faulty, or is there a way this can be resolved?
