Carmax offer for my 02 C230
Trading in my 02 C230. Got an offer from Carmax of 21k. My C230 is black has only the sunroof package and the cd changer from autoclass. I have 28k miles on the car. Just thought I would share the info for those wonding how well these cars are holding their value.

I talked to the Infinity dealer today because I'm thinking of trading on a G35 coupe, and he said average wholesale in the black book is 21,000. I drove a 350Z on saturday, and it is fast. Not as refined as the c230 but definately much better handling and, did I mention fast? The transmission is amazing compared to the POS in the c230. I will drive the G35 tomorrow and decide one way or the other, but I think 21-22,000 is about right for trade in.

for my car at 6800 miles, kelley blue book lists it at $22,200. however, item to note is that kelley does not take into account manual or auto tranny. i tried both ways and got same price. oh, and this was for encino, ca.
edit: they also dont have an option for power seats, or the roof.

I wouldn't ever expect to be able to sell the car for the retail price. I am very surprised that KBB came up with that retail price. There are still a few new 2002's on the lot. They have a $1000 dealer incentive and the two dealers here are giving big discounts at this time. A good negotiator could get one under invoice. There are even discounts on 2003's that yield a better price than that KBB price. I think the private party price is too high, also.

Retail is what you would expect to pay at a dealer, correct? I think Private Party is the price that you could get from selling it yourself. I think that your loss would be more than $555 if you tried to sell it yourself.

Dealer retail is higher than Individual Retail, they also have dealer trade in and another trade in, it is all just too confusing!
My E55 can go from 34k all the way to 54k!!!

Guess there's some benefit to living in California, my car is worth slightly more than it would be in St. Louis. Too bad the difference is only equal to the amount of excessive rent we have to pay for a single month.
