Scheduled Maintenance

I know this has been discussed on here in some form or the other but as I always do I’ve slept again.
Is there an official piece of paper that gives dealer the OK to due the scheduled maintenance early, prior to the FSS telling them to. My local dealer claims his allowance is only +/- 1000 miles from when the “FSS” tells him. But yet I seem to recall that on here mileage figures of 7000 or 8000 being mentioned. Maybe one of the techs on here has access to this and doesn’t mind sharing it. It just seems kind of strange for my dealer to say this considering it would mean more money in his pocket.

Thanx for all your help.

Maintenance

As far as I know, there is very limited flexibility from MBUSA when it comes to service cost reimbursements - FSS +/- 1000 miles is also pretty much what I've heard from my dealer sources. Anything else is going to be on your tab.

Someone has to pay - either you or MBUSA. The latter has made it clear that it regards the FSS readouts as gospel under the "free mtc" program. Any major deviation is something a dealer might do for you as a customer, but without the expectation of being reimbursed. Nice work if you can get it...

I searched and found this old thread... (yes, I'm a noob that searches )

My million dollar question is....

About how much $$$ do we need to fork out for 4 years/50,000 miles of scheduled maintenance on the 05/06 C-class?

I do my own oil & filter change @ 5,000 miles, and let the dealer take care of the Service A - B scheduled maintenance, which is cover under my warrenty.

that's great! so do you still remember how much Service A and B were? Does the sequence of scheduled service go something like, Service A, B, C, then back to A, B, or how does it go?

+/- 1000 miles here in Oregon, too. I have the oil changed every 5k also, and that along with air filters if needed runs about $168 (at the dealer) I've since decided to change it myself.

My Service A & B scheduled maintenance is free, I don't know what the cost is, But I think service A is $150
I am unaware of any service C.
And I am alway a few hundered miles over so I don't know what their policy is on bring the car in early.

For the W211, the FSS letters in the instrument cluster range from A-H and are service time estimates. See the link below. If you see a letter C in your cluster, that means 3 hours labor estimate. I don't know if the W203 is like this, but I thought it might be worth posting.

for someone who doesn't put too many miles on the car, service A and B doesn't really depend on your mileage. I put about 5k/year on the car. the dealer did my service A and B about every, I think 12 or 18 months, regardless of mileage. Been doing that for the past 4 years.

Did your car come with the free scheduled maintenance (A, B or etc...), or did you work that into your paperwork ? (the 2005+ year MB was the beginning of the No-More-Free-Maintenance-Era, right ??

Had service A done yesterday took less than an hour and was 250.00 @ MBSD alot of money for an oil change. Also it seems like all the advisors there are not the most plesant people to deal with either.

AMD:

In the US I just asked my SA the same question. She said 1k miles from the FSS, or at least 9k miles* from the last service. She would do it at either.

* said that the FSS calls for service from 9k-14k, and she cannot go below the minimum mileage.

I have a 2004, they still offered free scheduled maintenance, nice savings for the first 50,000 miles.

Three services A $150 ea.
Two service B $300 ea.

I've had one extra oil change (non Service A or B) done at MBSD and only charged $80 total. Sounds like they're ripping you off.
I've posted before on who the best salesmen, SA's, and Techs are at MBSD.

If you did have a bad experience at MBSD, make sure to note that (with specifics, not overall generalizations) in your post-service mail survey.
Or call the Service Floor Supervisor directly, and file your complaint.

I personally know about 3 or 4 of the SA's at MBSD, and all are extremely helpful, super friendly, and more than eager to learn about non-US spec OEM MB modifications/upgrades.

amdeutsch, I asked my SA if there was an official communiqué from MBUSA as to the "window" for scheduled maintenance, and he said there is no such thing, but rather up to the individual dealership Service Dept Supervisors and Manager to make a call. He says that most dealerships should be reasonable, and some go as far as waiving the mileage requirement, for example, when the car is reaching 50,000 miles, and the FSS hasn't warned of required maintenance yet. He said, that if I brought my car in, and requested it, that they would be glad to do it probably within 2,500 miles.
So as mleskovar alluded to, there is no official party-line as to service/mileage window, and it seems that some dealers are more apt and friendly to work with, depending on their supervisor/manager criteria.

Which dealer do you get the $150.00 cost for Service A, do they give you a loaner?
