Operating life

With maintenance done according to the schedule outlined by Mercedes-Benz, what kind of operating life can I expect from a 2005 C-Class? When should I expect major parts to start breaking down?

The car is used as a commuter and is also run a lot on the highway.

pretty much do all maintence, motor oil only mobil synthetic one dont use any other oil. throw in a fuel injector cleaner twice a year into the gas tank STP or other brands are fine.

how many miles do you have?

i'd def change the tranny fluid before 70K that ish comes out black no matter what benz tells you its def not lifetime. do the usual plugs and air filters you should be fine... for awhile. if you take care of them they will lasts for awhile

but ya STFF

My gas sipping C-Class
I have 115k miles on my 05. I had an issue with the sprag bearing on the alternator (which caused an issue with the A/C compressor) both were fixed and other than that issue, it's just been tires, brakes, and oil changes for me.

The front end of my car is pretty beat up with rock chips and bug damage. I've also had an issue with the clear coat on the arm rest wearing off.

I drive my car pretty hard (no abuse, just fast with aggressive cornering) so I would say this has been the most reliable car I've owned. (I've had BMW, Infinity, VW, Toyota, Jeep, MGB, etc) Great car so far, just slower than pond water.

My front end is also beat up. Nanotechnology paint isn't as wonderful as promised eh? I'm at 46,500 miles on an 05.
