smart key that smart?
i was just wondering i have two keys that i got from the dealership one of them i gave too my younger brother he asks for permission and i somtimes lend him the car..but i think he took it out without my permission last night and theres a ding on my car now
is there any way i could find out if that key i gave to my brother was activated last night...maybe by going to the dealership or somthing maybe accessing the internal computer memory ...ect ect...
or are the two completely keys identical..
also is there a memory on that sort of thing in my car ..?
i so wanna bust him :P

To your question... Call your dealer service dept to see if they can pull the date/time drive info from the onboard computer. I don't think this kind of tracking would be key related, but onboard PC related. I don't know if the onboard memory is written to on a continuous basis, or only in the event of a fault code, but it's worth a question to the dealer.

Is it really worth all this trouble? If you trust him to give a key trust him enough to just ask hey did you take the car out? did u hit something? and if he did he has a driver license and insurance right? I have 3 brothers and i am the youngest...i learned through hard way

Let me see if I have this right. You gave a key to your brother and you don't trust him enough to ask if he borrowed the car. If you don't trust him you should not give him a key.

604, isn't there a feature in the computer where it shows how many miles was driven in the last x amount of hours? I remember checking that option one time and saw that almost 150 miles was driven on a Sunday while I was away, anyway, total seperate story but that's how I found out the car was being used.

if you can find the screen that 02Ipressor is talking about and you havent exceeded the x hr window, then you should be good. worst case i agree with the previous suggestion that if the dealer cant do it, tell him they did and see if he buys it. worst case, he doesnt own up to it, but next time you will be able to go back to that option in the computer and check for yourself.
