Temp Sensor, T-belt, and Water Pump 02 c320

2002 Mercedes C320 Sport Sedan, Lexus Rx300, Dodge 2500 Cummins
Temp Sensor, T-belt, and Water Pump 02 c320
I believe the outside temp sensor has went bad on my c. It reads -40 degrees lol. Has anyone else had this problem?, or changed it themselves...I was looking to see in terms of cost what it will take to replace.
The other thing, about a year and a half ago we were removing the bad alt and the bracket (on W/P) for one of the bolts split at the bolt hole. Before starting Law school i did take a few auto classes and i grew up building race cars...besides my dad owns a large auto repair shop lol...he said the existing bolt had been crossthreaded on install which caused the break. Idk if it had been changed before...i bought the car from a banker in florida when it was 2.5yrs old.
We ended up brazing the piece back on and tapping it out. It has worked great but since i have some extra money i want to fix it right by replacing the water pump which would also be some preventative maint. Is this something i should buy at the dealer or is there a recomended vendor i should go through.
Also should i do the timing belt also while im at it? Has anyone done this themselves? I have done it on a couple honda's and can do v8 timing chains with my eyes closed.
I just dont know if there is any quirks to doing it on our cars. My car has over 100k on it, and i definately want to get another 100k out of it.

43? Ouch, I thought it's toasty warm inland where you are at. The temp sensor is held on with mild friction and has the force of wind and rock hitting it all the time. See if it's still there (passenger side fog light has a hole where the cone shaped sensor is). If it's there and you get bad temp reading, get a new one, pop the old one out, unplug it from the harness and plug it back in. You will have to drop the belly pan to get to it. If it's not in it's place it's probably just hanging lose inside the engine compartment, push it back in place.
