Does anyone have this sound?

The car is a 2001 C240.

With the engine turned off, after it has been run for a while, a sound can be heard from under the hood. It's a short buzzing or hissing sound. It reminds me of a pressure relief noise only buzzier. It lasts for up to 2 or 3 seconds and than stops. It can start again every so often. Sometimes even an hour after the car has been parked.

With the hood open I can't really localize the source. Is it the A/C plumbing? Annoying not knowing what it is.

I think it is the electric radiator fan.

Mystery Sound

The fan does not turn at all when the noise is heard, the engine is off of course. It's like a slight buzzing for a second or two, than stops, come back in a while. Eventually it stops. maybe when the car is fully cold or the AC has settled down.

What is it?

I believe there is a pump that runs a few minutes after the engine is shut off to reclaim fuel vapors.

I don't believe the radiator fan operates with the engine off -- I've never seen mine run after shutdown even in hot summer weather.

It's not the fan I'm talking about. I am referring to a very low pitched sound. You have to be very close to the car to hear it. Hood open is best. A slight intermittent buzzing/hissing sound once the engine is off.

I too have the same noise - buzzing from my 2001 C240. I have noticed this when I wash the car - when I pull out of the garage and turn off the ignition, I notice the same buzzing sound. I thought it might be something when I am hosing off the car and getting water inside the grill. It is intermittant, so I have not been too concerned.
