Noisy Wipers: Normal or Bad?

My wipers make a lot of noise when they move, even when the windshield is super wet with rain.

Is that normal or should they be almost silent when wiping? Give me your thoughts. I may have to take to the MB service dept. soon.

Mine are noisy. I think it is the rubber compound used by MB's supplier.

same here...it annoys the heck out of me. I thought dealer gave me car w/ worn out wipers but then the car is new! its kinda silent in beginning and as time progress it starts to squeak! I agree w/ Lynn where it may be just the type they use. Should I switch to Bosch microwipes or something?

I agree that it must be the wipers that MB uses. Mine annoyed me so much I assumed they were worn out. So I bought new ones from the dealer and they were even worse. I have yet to find a place that carries the right size in another brand - if anyone finds a store that carries them in another brand, please let us know. The brand they had at the dealer were Bosch of course.

I put some Rain Away on my windshield, and the noise of the wiper reduced a lot.

mine makes noise too, and it also doesn't wipe away the water that well too.

My wipers were so loud I couldn't use them. I just let the Rain-x do it's thing.

I mentioned it to the dealer and they replaced the rubbers. They are now SILENT. Hopefully they'll stay that way.

The wipers on my '02 C240 are totally quiet and do a pretty good job. One of the things I always check on a new car is wiper operation. I figure it they work good when new, I can assume a change of blades will always get them back to original. It seems like more people with the coupe are complaining -- probably a different windshield and maybe wiper setup. Maybe there's a tension problem that can be easily corrected.
