C220 CDI in Central VA (charlottesville)
I just wanted to see if anyone knew of this car or if they are are easily available in the states.
I saw a green C220 CDI in Charlottesville, VA today it had a Euro style license frame and mounted to it, it had a VA Drive Away Tag.
I would like to get one of these, my W124 300D is getting along in age and would love to get a smaller more efficient diesel.
Thanks
Jeff

This is what bugs me. VW will be using the Blueteck Mercedes diesel because theres doesnt meet the new federal standard. But Mercedes doesnt import these cars for there customers.

With gas prices what they are, I too would go this direction over a hybrid...
though in CA, you can drive in the carpool lane if you have a hybrid.
I'm not sold on the concept of hybrid yet..the addtl. amount of energy needed to mfg all the extra parts, and replace the batt's every 5 years leaves me wondering if their is any benefit to the environment with a hybrid over a more efficient car.
C160's which were briefly sold in the UK, could get 50 mpg, but only maybe 120 hp and a zero to 60 time close to a VW bug.
Still I'd rather drive the car I have an get better mileage than a freakin' *****. Err Prius.
The VERY frustating part, is that the car I have could get better mileage and run on 89 octane if I was able to accesss the ECU settings, and change them depending on the mode of the day, ie short fast jaunt, or long haul. Just a setting in the ECU for fuel type.

You'd never get it past customs.

Lots of useful torque and there is no question in build quality because we have been building diesels for years on end. Id take a c270 cdi ( steve's wagon) over any "affordable" hybrid now a days. They just look terrible and I imagine maint. for them years down the road would be even MORE complicated than our current cars.... Things are complicated enough the way they are.
Does anyone know if c class CDIs are sold in canada? :x

This is not true, VW co-developed the BlueTec Technolgy with MB but the engine that VW uses is strictly VW but using bluetec technology. VW is not using the bluetec term in the US because they don't want VW's engine to be confused as being MB because VW has a long reliable history with Diesel engines.

I was under the impression that VW and Mercedes worked together on the Bluetech diesels.

The article I read in one of the car mags claimed that the VW version was a few years out and the TDI did not meet the new standard. So VW was going to use the Mercedes version tell there's was ready. I guess my issue is if its good enough for VW to use in the states why doesnt Mercedes offer a four cyclinder diesel in the states.

I have heard that in the near future (2010)
MB is looking to bring the C320 Bluetec to the US. they are waiting to see if the sales are as good on the E, ML, and GL, the RL diesel didn't sell very well so they droped it from the line.
I would prefer the 4 cyl. I am not all about tons of power, if I wanted tons of power i would get a C55 or the new (drool) C63. I want the economy, I got 52 mpg highway out of my first gen TDI, I later got the same body jetta but with the PD diesel, it had more power and quicker off the line but the best I ever got with it was 44 mpg highway. my 87 300D is getting me on average around 38 mpg, but i am have read the W203 C220 CDI with manual trans can get as high as high 40's to low 50's. with Diesel at 3.50/gal I wouldn't mind the higher mileage.

Diesel Heinn?!
Good to know that guys in US are willing to buy them! We in Europe would prefer an petrol V8 if the gas where cheaper!
Diesel is almost 0,5€ cheaper than petrol, at least in my country!
