C230 Kompressors: What's your average MPG?

Hi there. I searched the forum and found threads on mpg, but not this particular.

I'm looking to see what kind of gas mileage you guys (with c230 Kompressors, and c230 w/the v6) are getting. Post it like this (if you want lol)

C230 (year)
Average MPG
Driving Conditions
Location (weather conditions, etc.)

As for myself:

2003 c230 Kompressor Sedan
22 MPG
Grandma-Slow
NY (Winter, COLDDD!)

thanks!

2004.5 C230 SS (6-speed)

I average about 25 mpg based on the trip computer, about 28 on long trips, 32 if I stay at the posted speed limit, 22 mpg if I drive aggresively. In reality, actual mileage is about 10% lower than the trip computer.

I drive in all climates in So Cal, while it's in the mid to upper 60's in the O.C., our home in Lake Arrowhead is in the teens at night and low 40's by day.

Smile Some of you guys are getting great gas mileage...

How much does the cold weather (and winter gas) affect the car's gas mileage? I read about someone else with a c230 who was getting bad gas mileage no matter how soft they drove it. I too have this problem, lately I've been getting 21 mpg, and I do a lot of highway driving, and I drive verrry sofftly...I understand the cold can lower my mpg, but judging by the way I drive and the mpg some of you get in cold weather, my car should do better. I heard something about cleaning the Mass AirFlow, any of you know about this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

If you have the 2.3L M111 or 1.8L M271 you should check:
- cam sensor connectors for oil

I was getting bad gas mileage (12-13 L/100 km) and discovered these were leaking oil into the engine harness. Since cleaning the engine harness and all connectors I've gotten a best of 7.11 L/100 km on the highway at 100 kmph and averaging 9-11 L/100km around town depending on how hard I drive.

I got > 700 kms/tank after fixing this, was getting ~500 kms/tank before.

They are very easy to check, check for posts by me and you'll find diagrams of where they are. Takes 2 mins to pop the connector and check for oil, definitely worth doing first before like I did, replacing MAF and O2 sensors. $700 wasted on repairs when a $8 can of contact cleaner did the trick.

hmmmmmm

So not quite a 230, but for a 200 - I've not really noticed a difference in ambient temperature on gas consumption, with the exception of running the A/C.

I get 24-26 city (London), 33-38 highway [70mph standard, more when there are no speed cameras] - I can absolutely see a difference when I push it vs when I'm taking it easy.

That difference is HUGE. I don't think I have EVER gotten that kind of mileage in 4 years! (640km is my record)

Everyone else, can you please specify what engine have and how far you are going per tank? (actual, not what the computer tells you)
Thanks!

Directions from mckay:

1. Pop hood
2. Open hood
3. Locate air intake pipe from passenger side inlet to drivers side intake housing.
4. Directly behind (towards back of car) this pipe is a rectangular engine cover
5. Pull forward to remove this cover
6. Under the cover are 2 circular metal sensors side-by-side
7. Unplug the connectors to these sensors (push on tabs and pull, I use a screwdriver for leverage when they are stuck)
8. Visually inspect connector, if it looks wet its oil
9. Physically inspect connector by wiping finger across contacts, check your finger for oil.

here's what i found so far...

I checked the engine, but didn't have enough light. I did notice dust on different parts of the engine, like the ESP, and elsewhere. It's a film of dust that comes off with my finger...seems like a brown color...see the picture...

sorry, i don't know much about car engines, etc, glad to have you guys who do! lol

by the way, i took that picture off of the internet and added the text, i didn't photograph my engine...

thanks...

That's the brown film I saw on my engine parts, I have to check my cam sensors, they most likely have the film on them as well...

No its not. Your engine is dirty.

Why are Mercedes owners so technically incompetent?

Hate to say "I told you so" yet I posted a thread with instructions and a TSB and it got less attention than "look at my white LED mods".

Maybe as more owners fork out some cash to fix their cars they'll smarten up and learn something about them too.

Hehe, cut the guy some slack My engine also had the nice brown gooey film of of dirt on top (from regular driving), but the cam sensors were slicked with nice LIQUID motor oil. Slightly lighter brown too, and smelled like oil. That's what you should be looking for, Aolson.

Where are you guys getting your mpg?....by calculating or by the meter?
My meter says 26mpg most of the time, but after calculating it at the pump, it's almost always 24mpg.

2mpg difference.
Have you guys compared?

24mpg calculated (Average over 3 tanks)
Shell gas

K&N filter seems to be giving me 1 more mpg. I've only filled up once with it, so I'll have more accurate readings after another two fillups
