Why don't you do a group buy directly from a german dealer. I heard that they normally charge about 350 euros in Germany for the changer making it about $315 these days (was $275 a few months ago). With a little dealing you may get them down to 300 euros or less. All you need is a German speaking person to negogiate for you....

Why a single-CD?
Benzomonterey,
Don't you find single-CD in-dash players annoying (at least not in conjuction with a changer, that is)? It's a pain to load and load each disc, particularly while driving.
It's nice to have a changer magazine, which can be loaded in the house, before you get to car. Plus, there's no need to manually switch CDs while you're driving (assuming the 6 discs in the magazine are enough for a single drive). The C-Class CD-changer is accessible from the cabin (in the glove-box), rather than in the trunk, like it is in some cars (which I will admit makes an in-dash unit more attractive).
I've only found a single-CD player advantageous (in conjunction with a changer, in my last car) when I bought a CD, while out and about, which allowed me to pop it in and not mess with the discs already in the changer. Come to think of it, I could load almost twice as many CDs in my old car (10 in changer + 1 in dash = 11 vs. 6 in MB changer).
I would like a single-CD in-dash head-unit + the changer, because I haven't used tapes since 1991. But I far prefer the tape + changer setup to a single-CD in-dash unit alone...

with music ADD I never seem to keep the right cd in the changer. I guess it's something I have gotten used to having, and the last changer I had was in the back of an SUV so I don't have any experience with a glove box mounted changer.
Who knows what I will end up with.

Is the CD changer from autoclass the actual MB oem changer (with the logo and everything) or is it a 'compatible' changer? On their web page the pic shows it to be OEM, but I want to be sure. Also, will the price in clude the mounting kit or will we have to get that from the local MB dealer who installs it?

actually, i have a criticism for all the car sites... they suck. if it isn't dead links, or "coming soon" promises (it's been a year!), or just plain amateurish design... well, i could go on w/ this rant...
(actually, i find peter's wheelexperts.com site to be an exception to the sloppy design )
anyway, yes, it is an offical mb oem part, and here's the direct link to the page http://www.autoclass.net/catalog/mer...ectronics.html. i ended up calling them anyway...
you need to get the mb logoed changer, the right cable depending upon bose/standard system, and you need the install kit. i took them all to a local dealer who quoted an hour install time but it took longer...

I have the standard system so should I just get both the install kit and fibre optic?
Also in relation to old threads. Does anyone know where to get the matching door handles for the coupe?
Thanks
Nathan

nboyd, yes, you need to get the cable and the install kit.
the cable will differ if you have a bose or a standard system. when you call to order, tell them that you have the standard system and they will send you the right cable.

I would like to echo Nathan's request for a lead for matching door handles.
(Should have gotten the C7 package.)
thx

Beth, I did a search for door handles and someone got the door handles for $45 each from the dealership.

The thread answers that this should be standard for all dealers.

i am a convert. i have a single in dash for my bmw and i really liked it. in fact, i considered getting the command just so i could have the single in-dash player. but since i bought the extra changer magazines, and b/c the changer is in the glove compartment, it is actually pretty convenient. so i have 3 magazines - different genres and i just pop in the magazine.
of course, i would really prefer a dvd/in-dash 6 cd changer system...

If you prefer an in-dash, single CD player why don't you get the MB radio for the C-Class with the built in CD player from the UK? It's the A10 model. I wish I did but I already purchased the CD Changer when I found out about it's availability. I bet if you got the part number you could order it locally.
