2002 C230K Check Engine Light
Greetings!
After 3 days of just sitting, I used the C230K this morning. Right away after starting, I can feel the engine is idling rough. The check engine light came on soon after that. I drove it for about a quarter mile, parked it and turned off the engine. I waited for a few seconds and restarted the car. The car is now back to normal except the check engine light is still on.
My questions are:
1. When CEL comes on, does it mean there's an error code?
2. Is scanning the only way to get error code(s)?
3. Is there a way to reset error codes manually like, for example, in the 300E or 400E?
4. How do you extinguish the check engine light?
This (wife's) car has around 55K miles.
Thanks in advance.
Mario

1. When CEL comes on, does it mean there's an error code?
Yes, and there can even be pending codes with no CEL
2. Is scanning the only way to get error code(s)? Yes, you need an OBD2 scanner to get the codes or know someone that does.
3. Is there a way to reset error codes manually like, for example, in the 300E or 400E?
Yes, you can disconnect battery for about 20-30 minutes.
4. How do you extinguish the check engine light?
You can do this various ways, a sharp ice pick to the light may work, black electrical tape over the light works, take the dash apart and de-solder the LED would work. You can also remove the instrument cluster, just two connectors and walla it's out, toss it away, put an iPod Touch in there and watch movies while you drive.
