Check Engine Light on.

My CE light just turned on my 01' C240.

I went to autozone and had them check it out for me with an OBDII reader.

Code:
P0442
P0700

can anyone tell me what the codes are?
Thanks.

Welcom to the forum.

P0442 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (small leak)
P0700 Transmission Control System Malfunction

Personally, I would reset the codes and see if they come back. I've had similar codes on before and reset them, never came back. The P0442 usually is triggered by the fuel tank pressure sensor meaning there's not enough pressure due to a leak somewhere, probably caused by an old gas cap so you may want to stop by the dealer, get a new gas cap, not too expensive and you car is pretty old now so it couldn't hurt. May also be a leak somewhere in the activated charcoal canister but gas cap is a very simple DIY.

The transmission error, maybe related, maybe not. I know some people get tranny errors when the MAF is dirty, happened on my kids SLK, cleaned the MAF and the code went away.

do you happen to have any instructions on where the MAF is, and how should i clean it? Just to be on the safe side.

Search the forum for details on where it is on the C240. My guess is that it's behind the air filter assembly. Cleaning is easy, remove the MAF tube and then remove insert (some cars you can just remove the insert, that's easier). The insert is usually black rectangular about 3" long, 1" wide, 1/2" thick and sits in the MAF housing which is the thickness of the intake piping, about 3" diameter. It has a gold colored wire at the end, this is what gets contaminated. Don't touch it, you'll contaminate it more. Spray it very heavily from all angles with CRC MAF Sensor Cleaner (most auto supply stores will carry this like Pep Boys). Put everything back in and good to go. There a chance that the MAF got contaminated by a dirty air filter so now is a good time to change them if they haven't been changed in a long time.
