I have the same opinion than in 2001 when it was launched, I like the front but don't like the rear too much!
But after 2 years I ended buying one!
I think its a matter of use, after a while we start to see more an more and get used to...
Well, in 2 months I will see it in person, and maybe I change my opinion!
PS: last weekend I test drove the new 1series BMW coupe with a 204HP bi-turbo diesel engine and I also didn't like the rear on the pics, but in person it was better, and even better seeing it on the road!
But after 2 years I ended buying one!

Mostly, I'm not a fan of the new headlights. From the front / side, it makes the front wing look like that Ford 'coupe' - The cougar i think. I think the new headlights make it lose its MB association.
Flicking through some of the pics, the rear looks like it sits slightly higher too, but that could just be from the photos.
