Wheel Torque

What is the correct wheel torque for my 01 C240 with aftermarket wheels?

RTFM (it's even in the index)

But, I set my C230K to 85 (manual states a tad less though).

Yes...

Page 335 of the '02 Manual [look for the section on changing wheels/tires] clearly states 80 ft/lbs.

Varying up a few pounds is not going to be harmful, but making all five bolts even is critical. Uneven torquing is the chief cause of warped rotors, as you probably already know. I would never go any higher than the 85 ft/lbs in the post above, either, for the same reason.

Let me throw on a reason for the even torque..

I've had to replace my hub and rotors because of lazy tightening process. Now - by hand, then torque wrench.

Until you've replaced a hub - you haven't lived! 2 and 3/4" socket!! air hammer. Not to mention the expense. If dealer was to do it it would have been $800 - plus rotors.

Youwch!

I think hope's request was intended to ask if the recommended torque setting would be different for aftermarket wheels. Froman engineering perspective, I can see how that might be the case, but I have no idea if it might be correct. Anybody have experience in being told to use a DIFFERENT torque setting for NON-STANDARD wheels?

If the manual is wrong, why do you RTFM?
