OAT Probe

The outside air temp probe on my '01 C320 has dislodged from its socket in the pass side grill area. Needless to say, the readings are inaccurate.

Seems like it should be an easy fix since I can reach it from inside the engine compartment. However, I can't seem to get it to reinsert in the socket.(short arms, big hands!! ) Any advice would be appreciated.

I was going to wait until next visit to dealer, but another thread got me to wondering if the ECU uses the temp info from this probe.

Wheens, Revstriker here in Dallas had a similar problem with his temperature probe. I seem to recall it just snapped back into place, but yes the clearance for the hands is minimal. Here's a thread with his post on the subject. Hope it helps...

Thanks MB-Bob
I remember the thread for the golf discussion!!

Still curious. I think the ECU uses air temp in its program. Does anyone know where it gets its readings? Is it a different probe than this OAT one?

I don't know for a fact, but I would think the probe for the ECU would be between the intercooler and the throttle body.
