The Future of C230K

Do you think the upcoming high performance japanese sports car will hurt C230K's sales?

The 350Z will starts at low 26K's when it is released this summer, nicely equipped at 30L with LSD, 18" and Xenon

Mitsubishi EVO VII will has a price tag under 30K

Subaru will release the STi version of the WRX

Mazda's RX8 with 250hp and 9K redline

Mercedes answers...

This concept is built on the C platform, using the 3.2l v-6 and 4matic...
It will debut at the Detroit Auto Show.

Re: The Future of C230K

For customers with preference for Teutonic cars, these Japanese efforts will not hold any allure. Personally, I would consider the 350Z (I had a Z and loved it), and maybe the RX8 (depending on its size and how it looks, I haven't seen it yet). For my taste however, the Mitsu and Subie are strictly rice rockets in the "Fast and Furious" mold (not an MB demographic). Rick's C-concept MB would fit right in with that crowd, however. It even has the Celica GTS beltline! (But if MB won't build Buellwinkle's C-Coupe Cabrio for fear of scavenging CLK sales, they certainly won't build this one, either, as it would cannibalize the C-Coupe, albeit with a different customer demographic.)

The 350 Z will also have a "mark up" of almost 5k because there are "limited" amounts of them....

I think I saw an RX8 at Laguna Seca in October, I'm not sure how close to the production car this was as it had kind of a concept look to it but the sexy girl at the Mazda stand told me it was very close (she may have haven't known though - I doubt they hired her for her in-depth knowledge of Mazda products). It was kind of a strange looking beast with Saturn like mini-suicide doors behind the front doors to allow better access to the rear seats. It had more of an RX3 feel to it (real back seat) than the last RX7 model (no rear seat).

The Japanese competition won't hurt nearly as much as MB will hurt itself if it produces anything that looks like that concept car!

Actually regarding the MB concept; this overall look of this car would probably be OK as a repacement for the A-class.

The car in the pic is the Vision GST - it's a 6 seater (3 sets of two). I imagine the rear seats come out to carry cargo, so it's really more of a sporty mini-van than anything else. Might be more practical for a family than a C-class wagon (which apparently isn't selling well at all).

The RX-8 Concept at Laguna Seca was two steps away from the final version (there was an additional concept model between that one and the final version).

Personally, I'd love to get an RX-8. But I'm not willing to wait a year to "check it out" and see if I like it. But I love Mazda products and their quality is top notch.
