Auto Feature on AC randomly turns off - 2002 C230K

Hi All - I've been reading this forum for quite some time, but this is my first post -- yes I did search, and the search is down now btw, so no flames plz.

I recently noticed that my ac would randomly stop running in the auto mode. I would press the auto button, everything would work fine for a minute or so and then it would stop and the auto light would turn off... I could press it again for another few minutes of bliss, but it would turn back off. This has happened to me a few time over the past month or so -- but is not a constant problem. Oh - and the AC works great when you dial it in yourself.

Has anyone ever experienced this problem?

Thanks to all in advance!

contact dealer and have them fix it for you (if it's under warranty, that is IF you have the extented warranty =P)

Anyways, I had the same problem too. Do yourself a favor, I assume you have auto on, and the left dial where u adjust the AC/Heat on "0". move it to anywhere but "0", let's say 3 or 6, then turn Auto On, this minimized the problem for me.

Just in case you're not aware of this... if the fan speed is on anything but 0, and you move it to 0, this will turn the auto mode off.

You can turn auto mode back on, even if the fan speed is set to 0, and it will work as normal. Adjusting the fan speed knob while its on auto wont do anything, but if at any point you do adjust the fan speed to 0 from anything else, auto will turn off.

Just pointing this out as I didnt realize this when I first got the car and it confused me for a bit.

Thank you both for your responses. I'll definitely try keeping the fan speed up -- that's a really practical fix . I did know that moving the knobs turns off the auto -- but It did take me a while =).

Unfortunately the car's not in warranty. I've been kicking myself since about a month after I bought it for not buying one! I'm new to MB -- coming from all Toyota cars, I think I got a bit spoiled with repairs... too bad I could never go back .
