Howdy, anybody else have a similar problem? This was also noted in a review of the 230 Coupe in a large NY area newspaper;
Newsday last month. In the review the reviewer described it as the smell from the catalytic converter in the cabin upon acceleration. In my case it has started as that, and may still happen occassionally, but also have what I and others sense as an oily type exhaust smell in the cabin when the heater is on and particularly stong during acceleration. The dealer intially thought it was the heater fan motor, looked at that returned it to me with a loud rumbling noise come from the heater, and plans to replace the heater motor. with the noise, the smell problem appreared to be resolved. I brough the car back in for the replacement, they said the motor didn't need to be replaced, returned it to me and the smell is back. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

How new is the car? The underside is coated with cosmolene (sp?) at the factory in Germany so that the components don't rust from the saltwater of the ocean on the trip overseas. This coating usually burns off in less than a hundred miles, and it does smell quite foul while in the process.

The answer from MBtech sounds reasonable to me. Let it go for a few weeks and see if the problem is still there. Thats what the
warranty is for. You certainly don't want your dealer to start taking your car apart unless it is absolutely necessary.
