no. my front right brake pad is squealing a little. i assumed that that meant the pad was wearing thin.
but your post says that there is a sensor. is that sensor to warn you about the pads? b/c i don't get any malfunction message right now.

OK, straight from the horse's mouth - p. 294 of the manny, for those of you playing at home:
If the sensor indicates that your pads are too thin, you'll get a malfunction which will state:
BRAKE PAD WEAR
VISIT WORKSHOP!
and have this cute little pic:
( ! ) with the exclamation point encircled, to approximate pads around the wheel (I'd assume).
Also, FYI, it's a Category C2 malfunction, which is a message of "less immediate priority" (like being a "little pregnant"). You can clear these by using the reset knob on the instrument cluster.

Yes, my understanding is that Pagid pads are used by Brembo and are likely to be used on the C32 which has brakes made by Brembo for MB. Us common mortals with C-coupes use a different brand, don't recall their name but starts with a T. Anyhow, even if Pagid made the pads for MB, they would have made them to MB specs. It's quite possible that the Pagid pads you buy directly are a different formulation. If that bothers you then get Porterfield, they work well for me.

Whatever brake pads you have decided on, just scratch Performance Fiction's Z-Rated pads. Pagid is my first choice, but, have anyone ever try those green ones from tirerack?

I hope someone replies on this one; I just took my car in [MBSD] for a 44k? "A" service, and they are asking for 550usd to replace pads and rotors. They also had replace l/r tailight assy, and front h/l assy.
...I'm really starting to look more towards buying a BMW 2003 330i Performance Package...

help
So today I had a local shop put in my new Pagid brake pads.. I too got the "Brake Lining" message.. kinda don't understand the first few posts in this thread, so maybe someone can help me out here. My pads were not worn out or anything, I just wanted to get rid of the dust. How do I get this message off? Would the dealer do it for me or no?

Worn brake pad light
As far as I know, only the MB brake pads have the hole for the sensor that that activates the warning message. The sensor is nothing more than a wire looped in a plastic carrier that plugs into a hole in the pad. When the pads wear down far enough it wears through the wire loop and triggers the message. If the local shop removed the sensors and plugs it would cause the message to come up. Plug the sensors back in and tie them out of the way. I'm not sure if the light goes away on it's own once the sensor is replaced or not because I replaced the pads before it was triggered like you did....but left the sensors in. The dealer won't help you because technically it would be defeating a 'safety' message.

hmmm
so basically I should go back there tomorrow and ask them to plug the sensors in and tie them away?
my other issue is actually something i just noticed now.. so i am driving and now on every bump i hear loud creaks and squeaking. Could that have anything to do with the installation of the pads today. Perhaps when the wheels were taken off.. I am not much of a car person so I really dont even know what they did today, except for removing the wheels..was anything else removed that may be the cause for all of this squeaking on bumps.

Yes. Hope they still have them. If not, buy more....they're cheap. As far as the noise over bumps - there's a tech bulletin out with that symptom. Something about sway bar bushings.

last thing..
So when I had the pads changed, they gave me my old ones and said there is no use in throwing them away because they are still very good... so i looked through the box to see if maybe they put the sensor in there. BUT, I realized i have no idea what the hell it looks like. Can anyone tell me what its supposed to look like?
And also, if i do have to buy more, do i just get them at the dealership?
I am gonna try going there in a few hours hopefully, if i get a response here.
thanks,
ben

Look at the pads that were removed and there should be a hole in each one in the pad material (not the metal backing plate). The
'sensor' is a round plastic piece (that plugs into the hole) with a wire coming out of it and a plastic connector at the other end. And yes, you get them at the dealer.
