Exhaust Manifold torque specs?
So, yes, I've stff'd this one to death, and searched the W203 DVD with no luck. It lists nearly every other nut and bolt, but not that one.
The intake is listed at 20nm (about 177 inch lbs.).
(Would that be enough for the manifold??
Anyone have any experience with this on our cars?
Or even a general rule of thumb on other cars?
I've been working without the benefit of using a torque wrench to do things properly, and in the long run, that could be a bad thing.
I know for a fact I torqued the **** out of the tranny pan gasket bolts,
only to find they are only supposed to be 8nm on the 722.6 and 4 (! Thats all?)on the 722.9.
As I've been breathing exhaust everytime I turn on the heat for a long while now, I want to do it right this time...when I did my header I used an aftermarket gasket which I've since discovered is quite thin compared to the Mercedes one. I'm getting a nice breeze of exhaust off the area around the #1 cylinder, but don't not getting any additional noise? Hmmmmm.....
Heading out to sears to pick up a 25-250 inch lb torque wrench for $70.
Funny thing, OSH wanted 90 for the same tool..

~35 Nm, no?
Used new nuts and gaskets (they’re cheap) for my header install. Rechecked the torque after several heating/cooling cycles.
None of them required retightening.
My lightheadedness must be coming from something other than carbon monoxide.

Ha, and I just spent 75 bucks on a torque wrench that only goes to 30nm.
Next one up in my arsenal is the monster used for attaching crank pulleys at 210 ft lbs.
How come I couldn't find that anywhere?
Don't answer that question.
