new tires = better mileage?

just got new tires, general exlaim UHP 225/40 18. i gotta say these are really nice tires. the grip is good but not the best but that doesnt matter because there cheap!! they ride smoother than my last hankook/eagle f1 combo and fell like im floating, but i still get a lot of feedback from the wheel. im really happy with the tires and best of all i think im getting better gas mileage. used to get about 20.5 in the city now im getting above 21 and with even more full throttle bursts then before (i used to try to keep tire wear to a minimum as i rode on wires for about 4 months).

but can tires really have such a big affect on MPG or is it something else that i cant seem to put my finger on?

a quarter mile at a time
tires can have a very big difference. Could also be the air pressure

i kept pressure a little above MB spec, about 4 or 5 psi extra, and told the guys at the shop to do the same so the air pressure is the same. i know tires make a difference but this is possibly 1 MPG more.

actual tires and air pressure will both make a difference... it affects the rolling resistance

I just put on a set of Sumitomo HTR2 and they fell as good as the Michelins. But then I didn't buy them to go thrashing around with. My last set of pilots I rode till almost 40K at the rear. Th fron I had to change to Falken ZIEXs but those were nothing to write home about. I have yet to try the Sumitomos in the wet. I also need to try out my new Bosch Icons. My last set of blades lasted 4 years!!!!
Next I need brakes, pads & rotors - any ideas on saving a buck or two?
