ABS dash light, Brake Lining Wear warning, tranny stuck in first...
I drive an '01 C240 automatic with about 77K miles. Today, when leaving the convenience store I visited, I drove toward the main roadway and slowed to a stop. As I'm slowing down, though, my vehicle brakes abruptly and comes to a sudden stop a few feet short of where I intend to. Immediately afterwards, the ABS dash light appears, and the digital display warns of brake lining wear.
I let my foot off the brake pedal, and the car idles forward. I see there is no traffic heading down the road I'm turning on, so I pull onto the roadway and accelerate. However, the car refuses to leave first gear! To add insult to injury, the speedo is stuck on 0mph (hence, it wasn't functioning). I immediately pull off of the roadway into a parking lot, and put the car in park (P). After a few seconds of contemplating what to do, I decide to shut the engine off. I wait a minute or two, and restart the car. After doing this, the warning lights and messages disappear. I put the car in drive, take it for a spin around the parking lot, and see that the car is back to normal (speedo works, tranny shifts). I logged on here and searched for several minutes to find answers, but found nothing. Can anyone shed some light on what happened to me today?
