C230 Rattles

I am leaning towards ordering a C230 bordeaux red or capri blue/Auto/C2/C7 for my wife this week. How does the car hold up so far, any loose parts or rattles? One review stated the car made some noises (from the body, not the drivetrain). Any problems so far??? Thanks.

By the way, in Phoenix they are asking full retail for the car. Has anyone noticed if the C240 is being discounted due to the attention the C230 is getting?

I've got Capri Blue on my '02 C240. FYI, it's a special charge ($1150) in addition to the metallic charge on the C230.

The C230 I bought on 8/4 is as tight as when new, no rattles. I had 190s before for many years without any rattles. I have driven 2002 & 2001 C320 loaners and I think the C230 is quieter. It may be the tire noise on those Contis they put in the sedans.

Dealers charge different prices based on goals they have and you're negotiation skills. If you're not a savy negogiator try some internet buying services like carsdirect.com and see how that works for you. I paid full list but my car has zero options and I got it within a few days of their unvailing so I paid a premium to be first one on the block. I would not pay that premium now. They did deal on my trade though and got $700 more than their first offer.

As for the C240. I think MB still needs a lower priced sedan to compete with the Jag X 2.5, BMW 325, Audi A4, and various Japanese entries in the low 30's price range. The coupe doesn't compete in this arena so I can't imagine them dropping it. I do hope they come out with a C230K sedan that's priced in the mid 20s like the coupe but I doubt that as the competitors all have 6 cyl engines except the Audi. If you order all the options on the C240 that are standard on the C320 (Bose, Auto Trans, power memory seats, upgraded climate control), the price difference is less than $3,000 and is worth every penny. Some people like the C240 with a 6 speed because it's not available on the C320 and if you don't order the other options then you save $6,000.

i got mine in 9/01 and i haven't noticed any rattles or other creaky noises. compare that to my friend's audi a4 avant where there are little noises coming from: seat belt hinge, wipers, door panels, seats. his was purchased 10/01.

jpgroom,

I bought my C240 in Tucson...no real deals there....I check at Schumaker and they really had no deals there also..like you say...I saw in the AZ paper that European Auto..the other MB dealer was promo-ing the C240 lease at $399 + taxes/etc/etc...10,000 miles per year. Unfortunately, I have not seen any real deals made on MB vehicles...the MB dealer in Tucson would not negotiate the price of the car, but I fought like hell to get the most on my trade in...that's where I think you can make things happen....that's if you are trading in a car....good luck.

C230K Coupe/Orion/C4/C5/CD/AMG Spoiler/V60/TeleAid, 2 MGB's
My C230 is tight as a drum...no rattles, no squeaks, no nonsense.

The only 'problem' so far was a TeleAid hardware/software glitch...they fixed it.

My only complaint is that the service guys seem to know nothing about the various settings that have been reported here...for the Audio/Performance/Setings features. MB should really be more open with info than what they tell the service guys in training....
