And to be clear on that, it plays audio CD's or the navigation CD, it can't do both at the same time. So if you plan on using comand to play CD's that will be at the expense of navigation. On the other hand it does have aux input so you can plug an MP3 player into it and play it through comand.

DVD through COMAND

The EURO COMAND systems are configured to allow for the addition of a TV Tuner. If you see a picture of a EURO COMAND you will notice it has a "TV" button, whereas the US COMAND's do not. The optional tuner allows a PAL broadcast to be received and output to the COMAND screen.

In order to have a DVD/PS2/etc. output to your COMAND screen you must first have a EURO COMAND (though I have heard of companies that claim they can reconfigure a US COMAND to do the same). In addition to that, you must have an adapter that plugs into the COMAND and has standard RCA leads, RED = right audio, WHITE = left audio, YELLOW = video. There is a German company called Megacomm (http://www.megacomm.de) that sells this part for around $200 - I think. I have seen them listed on German eBay (http://www.ebay.de) for slightly less than that.

Now all you need is your DVD player. This part brings up question in my head because you might need to have a DVD player that outputs a PAL signal rather than an NTSC signal. In addition to that, you may need DVDs that are recorded in PAL format rather than in NTSC format. Someone else may know for sure whether this is correct or not.

You mentioned the addition of an MP3 player as well. For that you have a couple of options. A) a Handheld unit and an FM modulator; B) a handheld unit plugged into the COMAND AUX jack; or C) a DVD player connected to a EURO COMAND that has the ability of playing MP3 encoded CDRs or CDRWs. In my opinion, option C is the nicest as far as sound and appearance goes. Option A is certainly the least expensive as you don't even need to get the COMAND system, this option will work with any HU. Many people have posted to the various boards detailing both A and B. I have yet to hear of someone trying C, though I'm sure someone has!

Hopefully this answered your questions to some extent! Good luck to you!

Jay - do you have any details on how the plug actually hooks up/attaches to the COMAND ????

I didn't get to discuss it with Steve (concentrating on getting COMAND going).

correct...as far as I know, the U.S. COMAND will not work for viewing DVD with any type of connection....must be EURO.

That is not correct, the US COMAND can play TV as well it just must be activated with the STAR system... there is even a blank button on the US unit for the function

see topic in Audio Electronics Forum
