I have an 02 c230 coupe. A few weeks ago, my trunk sensor started going off. The trunk is closed, but the car always thinks it's open for some reason.

Had a few other issues that I was going to address while I was there as well.

I have been having problems with my windows rolling up and down. Sometimes they stop half way, and then go back in the other direction.

Something is wrong with my suspension or power steering. When I turn my wheel, I get a grinding noise, and it almost sounds the same as if I had a front wheel drive car with a bad axle.

I bought the car used, and I purchased the extended warranty, it's supposed to be good until Oct of this year.

The service manager at New Country said that these types of repairs are only covered under the first year - so I would have a $520 diagnostic fee, and might need to pay more if anything needed to be repaired. He said "noises aren't covered under warranty, and it doesn't sound to me like you have any parts that failed".

Am I wrong, or should they cover these issues under warranty?

What does the warranty say?

The first step in any warranty or lease question is to actually READ your warranty or lease. You'll be much better prepared to deal with the SA and anyone else at the dealer if you can get on the phone or talk to them face-to-face armed with that knowledge. They will be much more likely to take you seriously (and not screw with you) if you can point to a specific provision in the warranty that you think covers any "diagnostic fees."

The power steering sounds like the fluid is low.
The hatch try just pushing the steering wheel button to clear it.

Find a new dealer.

Tried everything to get the trunk sensor to stop coming on. Beeps every time I turn the car on.

Power steering I can figure out myself, but there is still a suspension issue as well.

The windows and trunk sound like something electrical -

take it to local shop that specialize in Benz. most of them do have STAR that can do diagnostic.

Did you try recalibrating the windows? I had to do that to mine once because the auto down/up wasn't working. The owner’s manual explains how to do that, but I think you basically run the window up as high as it will go and then hold the window up button for about 5 seconds.

geeze - what a joke! If you have an MB warranty, absolutely go find another dealer - if not, then in theory you should have more options on who can help you out..

I'll try resetting the windows, thanks for the tip on that.

I called another dealer, and I have an appt for next thursday. its almost an hour away from my house though so its def. an inconvenience.

Oh well, at least they don't have the $520 fee.

I have the extended warranty and for the first time ever was told by the a dealer (the one of many I have seen) that there might be a diagnostic fee.

I look at the SA and said
me: ummmm, no. I have the extended warranty
SA: it may not be covered under it
me: its covered
SA: it could not be
me: it is
(staring contest)
SA: ok, if any work is done that is covered under the extended warranty, the diagnostic is free
me: ...(as it should be anyway).....sweet, thank you

saved $70. If the SA said anything like $520, I would be on Chappelle's 'keeping it real gone wrong' skit.

Yes be careful. The EW covers only about 70% of the car. "Major Components" is how my SA explained it. Yes you need to read the fine print, but I've had electrical work done on my car, free of charge. Wow, are USA dealers really that bad? The Canadian ones (Vancouver at least) do everything for me, no questions asked.

I still don't understand why the dealer won't just service you. Geez, a good rep at a dealer equals tons of business. A little customer service goes a long long way.

stay away from that Broadway dealer, there the ones that tried to charge a dude $9K to fix his sunroof when all there was a pebble stuck in it

Brought it to another dealer - just had to pay a $118 diagnostic fee, which they reimburse if the repair is covered under the warranty. They said they think its the rear-SAM - they're running some tests tomorrow, and I'll know tomorrow whether they're fixing it or not.

Car is under extended warranty until May 2009 or 100,000 miles.

Just hit 69k last week so i should be good until next May.
