Will a used BAS/ESP module work w/o coding?

Will a used BAS/ESP module work w/o coding?
As the title suggest- I need a BAS/ESP module. If I can get a used one will it work without coding it to the car? I know a new one will have to be coded for sure. ['02 C240]
Long story short- My BAS warning light starting coming on once and awhile. So I check service bullitins and read the forum. The first thing I check if for corrosion at the BAS/ESP control unit connector (connector where the service bulletin has you spice on new terminal ends). I am horrified when I see the lower section of the connector filled with nastiness. So I try to clean it with electrical parts cleaner but I soon realize that the terminals were so rotted on the control unit 2 of them came out with the connector terminals! The remaining terminals are corroded beyond cleaning. Hence now I have a constant BAS light. I think it was amazing the thing worked at all before I pulled it apart. So my plan is to put in a control unit and replace all the connector terminals with the updated ones.
