5min engine "looks" mod

Decided to do my first mod (except stereo). Took about 5 min with a DA (220 grit paper). Just sand the paint off the top of the lettering, and it will be a machined alum finish when you are done. You can probably use a drill and sanding disc to do this if you don't have a DA. Just use 220 or finer paper. Keep the disc almost flat on the lettering to avoid hitting the paint on the other part of the cover.

BTW, you can also do this by hand with a sanding block, but it will take quite a bit longer. Also, it you are worried about hitting the rest of the cover with the sandpaper, just put duct tape over it first.

It's aluminum, so it may darken a little, but then you can just go over it lightly again every 6 mo or so. Ot you can brush a light coat of clear over the top of the letters. If I had a car with a distinctive color, like the blue or green, it might look good to paint the entire cover that color, then sand the letters and then clear coat the whole thing. My car is white, so it would not look good, but some other colors would.

Just keep in mind that the clear coat must be heat resistant - otherwise it will get burnt fairly quickly.
