2005 C230K Sport Sedan, 6 speed manual
Hi Carol. Welcome to the world of Mercedes ownership!
You are new here, so just a hint. It really helps people on this forum if you give as much information as possible. Car type, model, transmission, features, country, etc. Mercedes builds different features into their cars, depending on for which country it is destined.
I will assume your car is a 2002 US version C240 with automatic climate control. If this is true, the following advice applies. Your car should have a button labeled EC and REST toward the lower right side of your climate control panel. Pushing the EC button will disengage your air conditioning compressor and give you the vent function. It has an indicator light. EC is supposed to mean "economy".
The air distribution control switches are separate for the left and right side of your car. These switches look like a 4-pointed star, and have a button in the center that says AUTO. Most people prefer to simply leave the climate control on full automatic operation, and it will distribute the air properly (floor, face, defrost, etc.). The temperature can be controlled up and down by the switches on the extreme upper left, lower left, upper right, and lower right.
The Mercedes climate control system is logical (well, mostly) and works well. Unfortunately, it takes some practice to master the operation. If your car came with an owner's manual, it has a rather lengthy discussion with pictures beginning on page 160.
Again, I am assuming a US specification car. Happy driving.
