Car in a ditch!

My Mom rode my car into a ditch late the other night, didn't stop at a stop sign, was confused with the whole manual thing and the pedals etc and rode the car accross the street into a ditch. SHES OK!

I was just wondering if any of you guys had any information on how to go about getting it repaired etc... I haven't seen the extent of the damage, but supposedly an officer told my mom it was around $6,000 in damages. He may have assumed my nice wheels were more expensive then they actually were and stuff. First thing tomorrow I am to call and have the insurance company check it out I guess, but can I have it repaired where ever I want? Or does the insurance company tell you where to go? This also may be a stupid question, but does the dealership fix wrecked cars? Thanks all.

Wow, sorry about your misfortune.

In general, I would recommend against using the shop your insurance company recommends. They are usually looking for cheap repairs, not necessarily good quality.

Talk to knowledgeable people about where to take your car. Is there an MB certified body shop near you? Ask your dealership for a recommendation. Do they do collision repair? Ask someone from your local MBCA chapter (Mercedes club).

A Mercedes is a high quality and expensive car. Don't do substandard repairs.

Why did you let someone drive your car that didn't know how to count pedals, didn't know what each one of them did, etc? I call

^ Not too difficult, even once in a while I confuse the controls on my motorcycle. (ie clutching in when I wanted to brake etc). I can see my own mother or sister doing the exact same thing with my car

i'm famous for driving both of my cars (manuals) then getting into my girlfriend's car (auto)- then proceeding to throw us both through the windshield as i try to use the "clutch" to shift into second gear

still seems kinda hokey to me. are you sure you weren't drinking and put it in a ditch?

my insurance (state farm) has just told me to go get an estimate/repair wherever i want to get the car fixed- and they take care of the rest.

I guess I should have just said, "my mom is blonde", but whatever. I contacted my insurance and they just said to have it towed to where ever I wanted the work done. I called my local Benz dealership and they said to bring it to them and they would take a look at it and work with their outbound body shop for any body shop related damage. I will let you guys know how it works out.
