Comand Question?

Can't find a dealer with a Comand demo nearby. I'm visiting my son on Xmas eve. He has a '02 ML500 with Comand. Is this unit the same (funtionally) as what I would get in the CCoupe? I realize that it is a different unit, but is the info display and functionality the same?

Awaiting a new arrival...
The ML uses MCS, which is not the same as COMAND. They are similar in appearance, and function, but the COMAND displays are quite a bit more pleasing to the eye for non-navigational tasks.

I have found that very few dealers order anything with COMAND, unless the customer specifically wants it, when dealing with Cs other than the C32. I saw 0 in my travels all over the country when I was trying to firm up what I wanted to order and ultimately ordered COMAND sight unseen.

thanks-

I'm still trying to decide what the $2K+ buys me, other than nav and how useful the nav is for someone whose area of travel is pretty much local. Also, what is the "upgrade" path 2 or 3 yrs down the road? Will it become obsolete?

Don't get me wrong, I'm willing to spend the dough if it is at all a useful system, but I also might be able to find a car in dealers' stock with all the other options I want alot sooner than waiting for the 3mos. I've been told I need to wait for a car with it.

Why not buy the car now and have Steve install a Euro COMAND when he is in California at the end of January? He will only charge you $1300 including installation.

Will it become obsolete? Of course it will. Everything does. But for someone who will use it mostly in one area, having all the maps of North America on one or two dvd's isn't important. Just buy the cd for your area. I use my car almost entirely in the St. Louis area, but I am looking forward to getting COMAND from Steve. I often need to go to places in St. Louis that I have never been to before, and COMAND will make them easier to find.
