The final price was exactly what the carsdirect website produced.; $2300 under MSRP, $576 under "invoice" for my area (SF Bay). Carsdirect is working with Smythe in San Jose. Easily done, no hassle.
BTW, my nearest dealer wouldn't budge off MSRP and made no attempt to even get close to carsdirect.

Wheens, was it SF Mercedes that you went to on Van Ness because that's where I went, and the salesperson did use Carsdirect to quote the price. Depends on the salesperson, maybe he was trying to play hardball a little to hard and you didn't bite? My guy had carsdirect bookmarked on their computer and he printed that out, but we pushed him down another $500 to make it work.
Some salespeople are just plain snobs when it comes to selling a car. They think they're good enough to put their foot down on price and expect you to bite, and those are the people you walk away from and come back another day and find another salesperson, preferably someone who hasn't sold a car all day and just wants a sale.
Rule of thumb: don't ever buy a car the first day you're there, make them sweat it a little??? When they call your cell the next day to see if you're still interested, tell them you're at a BMW dealership and make them sweat more?
everyone agree?? whats the best advise!

Yes you could have. Carsdirect works thru a dealer; they are just a middle man. You deal with a person on the phone, just like you might talk to a dealer-salesman. If you didn't pay a special paint charge, you wouldn't have had to using carsdirect either. Just use another color, but input all your options and get what the carsdirect price would have been.
You may still have had to put up a non-refundable deposit.

ill try that out. anyone know off hand what combo would require SPC charge. i could go to build your own at the mbusa website and figure it out. ill see what price they could have given me. im paying $31,640 before tax and license from MBSD and that was $1500 less than MSRP of $33, 320.

C230 coupe 6sp
I just talked to the salesman where I bought my car, and asked him why my coupe had taken a 7-8000.00 depreciation hit in less than a year, and he said they still have 2000.00 incentives on the 02 coupes, and may have incentives on the 03's but didn't know for sure. He said they still have 2 '02 coupes in stock- both Paprika, cloth, sunroof, auto. So, if anyone wants one of these, I bet they are a deal. He said they had 9 230 sedans coming in shortly, and 2 320 coupes. I'm trying to work a deal to get out of my coupe since I don't think MB will ever get the trans to shift right and it drives me crazy.
