Time to move on (need input)

Well, it's time to move along. I have met a few members of this forum and have really enjoyed chatting with and modifying my car along with everyone.

I needed a fuel efficient 4-door car since my son is now 2 years old and, in the very near future, I'll need to commute 85 miles one-way to work. So I purchased a Nissan Altima Hybrid this weekend. Now the C230 Coupe needs to go to a new home.

So the question: What would be a good asking price for my car? Information about the car is in my signature and it has 80,500 miles, runs great, gets 31.5 mpg on the highway (when averaging 63 mph) and has an aftermarket extended warranty that's good for another 1 year, 3 months or 19,500 miles (to 100,000 miles total.) New front rotors and Porterfield R4-S pads added about 500 miles ago. Car also has a custom fit sunshield, factory MB C230 sport coupe car cover, and brand new floor mats.

I have thought about removing all the modifications and selling separately, but I the car is really well dialed-in right now and I would hate to undo everything.

So what's a fair price to get for the car? I don't want to "fire sale" the car, but I don't want it to sit unsold either.

I would appreciate any input or thoughts (serious thoughts, guys.) It's been a fantastic car, but the need for a 4 door really drove this decision. I will still come around and lurk on these forums as I have really enjoyed chatting with the folks here.

Bob

Yep, bound to happen. Geez, I can recall your son being born.

I can't say much to the price of the car. And in this economy....Do let us know how it goes.

Wow 85 miles one way! Makes my three mile bike ride each day look lame...

Anyway I hear ya on the car thing - I tried so hard to get a SPORT wagon...but couldn't get one in the USA...I wanted it to grow with me too - now I borrow my buddies truck when I need supplies for the house...

Anyway - Congratulations on your son and good luck with the sale!
Jake

(I have no idea a price either - just wanted to wish you luck)

This will sound harsh, yet I think you picked wrong. 85 miles each way, each day is about 2.5 hrs away from your son everyday. Instead of finding a different car, you should be moving closer to work or finding a job closer to home.

Bob - Sad to see you're selling the coupe and moving on, but very understandable.

As for pricing, it's a tough one. What's the kbb rating for private sell?

Thanks guys! I am gonna miss this car!

Drex - KBB says between $10,200 and $10,985 on private party. Seems a little high to me, but heck, I might as well try. Can ask for more money when you list the car low, right?

Amanonfire: No worries and not harsh at all - I understand exactly what you're saying. I'm leaving a job that's just 5 miles away for one that's 85 miles away. Why? Because the current job is a political nightmare, not getting any better, and I work 60 -70 hours a week anyway. The job 85 miles away is with a HUGE, globally recognized electronics manufacturer where I'd have a higher title and a lot more money. In the end, it's almost a wash in hours but with the new company, I end up with a prestigious company on my resume.

I'll toss the car out on eBay first. That way I can list all the modifications and see what that gets me. If that doesn't go anywhere, I'll put the car back to stock and sell on the usual venues. Either way, I'll post back here so folks have a reference point on sale prices.

Thanks guys!

Bob I'd list it at that price with all the mods. You can drop it down from there if you don't get any "positive" leads.

Congratulations on your new position.
It’ll be a drive, no doubt, but at least you’ll end each workday’s commute in beautiful Huntington Beach.

No help on its value, but you should ask at least $10K, imho. When Little Johnny (5’10”/180) starts driving ~two years from now, I’ll be hard pressed to find a Coupe for him as clean and tastefully modified as yours.

Sad to see a knowledgeable and technically-savvy member like you moving on. Alas, change is inevitable. Kindly keep us updated on the F-car and SVO, time permitting.

Best wishes.

Thanks for the kind words, Splinter! I'll still lurk - you guys are great! I had a blast on this forum. Heck, I would still love to have a C32. If only fuel costs weren't such an important driver in my household financial analysis...

Quick update: F-car now belongs to someone else. Rarely could drive it, but didn't really want to sell. So I did what every red blooded enthusiast did - placated the family by listing it for sale at a REALLY high price. Sadly someone thought it was THE combination he wanted, so it sold for full asking. Go figure! I made money on the deal, but sad to see it go.

SVO is coming out of mothballs now. It's going to get moved back to the house so I can begin stripping down the suspension and do a full-on race-ready suspension and driveline for it. Short block has been done for a while, but I need to pick up the AL head and start bolting things back together.

I'll keep everyone updated!

Bob

03 g35 coupe...........02 c32 Sold
congrats on the new pricing. As for pricing on the c230, i say check your local craigslist and auto trader for your same car and miles and adjust your price accordingly. Kbb sometimes isn't the way to judge a value of a car when your selling the car locally.

For example My integra on kbb was only worth $3000. But locally, it was worth $4500 in southern california and i sold it for $7000 since it had mods.

How about this one with 72K miles for 7900.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-...=p4506.c0.m245

I already know what my next car will be.
Ha, another C Coupe!!!

My GF likes my car so much, we were looking at C Coupes for her...
I was trying to steer her to rtking's car, as she's driven mine, so anything stock would be a disappointment, and leave me having to help her fix it up.
Damn.

rtking's car was a steal....

Thanks. Turns out that the bidder wasn't serious and was out of Eastern Europe (Poland.)

I ended-up selling the car from a Craigslist advertisement for less than $10K. I think the "sweet spot" for selling a 2002 C-Coupe is around the $9-10K range if you have relatively low miles.

Thanks everyone. It was fantastic running with this group. I'll keep lurking from time to time!

Sadly, I don't think anyone is going to see my old C-Coupe again. In about a week, it's going to be loaded into a cargo container and be shipped to Lebanon. The buyer of the car had a buyer waiting in Lebanon for it. I'll miss the car, but I hope the new buyer will enjoy it.
